H1N1 Flu Update - Most S.F. Bay Area School Reopen Sooner Than Expected

Here are some brief summary about the latest H1N1 (swine flu) around San Francisco Bay Area and across the nation.

The total confirmed H1N1 (swine flu) cases in California jumped from 69 to 99 as of Tuesday afternoon, with 119 suspected cases, according to California Department of Public Health's website.

California Department of Public Health's website also indicates both Marin and San Francisco Counties have 4 cases of H1N1 (swine flu) confirmed as of Tuesday, San Mateo has one case confirmed, the most cases confirmed is Santa Clara County, with 7 cases in there.

In Alameda County, health officials reported a new probable case on Monday, which brings the total probable cases to 2.

The total probable cases of H1N1 (swine flu) in the Bay Area are now 14, according to California Department of Public Health's website.

KCBS Radio and KPIX reports on Tuesday that most Bay Area schools are scheduled to reopen sooner than expected, and that because federal government said it was "no longer recommending school closures for H1N1 (swine flu)".

All schools that were closed are scheduled to reopen Wednesday in Santa Clara County; in Contra Costa County, five schools are scheduled to reopen on Wednesday as well.

Tamalpias High School in Mill Valley and Berkeley's Malcolm X Elementary School are expected to reopen on Wednesday.

CBS News reports on Tuesday morning that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the H1N1 (swine flu) had turned out "to be milder than initially thought".

Sebelius also said parents "should keep their sick children at home for at least 7 days".

Meanwhile, CDC said on Tuesday that the confirmed H1N1 (swine flu) cases in the U.S. are now 403, with 38 states are reported.
