With Kentucky having it's 22nd H1N1 fatality, the latest fatality comes from Pendleton County, where the victim is a woman in her 40s with underlying health conditions. It might be time to think about getting that infamous H1N1 (swine flu) shot. The swine flu vaccine is expected to be as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine. The swine flu vaccine is made in the same way and in the same places as the seasonal flu vaccine. Neither vaccine contains adjuvants. Some preservative-free vaccine is available. Talk with your health care provider about the benefits and risks of the vaccine for protection against swine flu.

If you are living in Lexington, Kentucky you can get the shots from The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. Shots provided there will be free. No word has been given as to whether or not it will be in the shot or nasal spray form of vaccination. The LFCHD will be hosting vaccinations of H1N1 at the clinics from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. (or until supplies are exhausted) Saturday at the following locations.

Lexington Christian Academy, 450 W. Reynolds Road and Bryan Station High School, 201 Eastin Road. Remember shots will be free.

The CDC has identified high-risk groups which the clinics are aiming to target:
pregnant women, people between the ages of 6 months through 24 years, people who live with or take care of children younger then 6 months of age, people ages 25-64 with chronic health problems or weakened immune systems, anyone who is in health care or emergency services.

The Lexington Fayette County Health Department has provided more then 7,700 H1N1 vaccinations at three clinics held Oct. 31 and Nov.7. You can call the health departments Flu Hotline, (859) 288-7529 or visit online at www.LexFluCrew.com for more information and the latest updates. If you can't find the information there then you cal call the state flu hotline at 1(877) 843-7727.

Don't live in Lexington? No need to worry. I've included a link to the state of Kentucky's vaccine clinics web page. Located here. This listing will show you when a county near you will be holding a clinic for the H1N1 vaccine.
