Haan Steam Cleaner Review

Review of the Haan FS-20 Steam Cleaner

Robin Neorr
I am a germaphobe. That being said it is no suprize that when I saw the late night infomercial for the Haan steam cleaner I immediately wanted one. I mean it sanitizes you floor with 15 jet streams of steam. It is said that it kills e. coli and dust-mites. I needed this thing.

Still I waited about a month before I pulled the trigger. During that month I was cursing my standard floor mop and that other brand name cleaner with the spray and disposable pads. I was spending at least ten dollars a month on cleaning fluid and those pads, the cost was adding up. So after much internet research I took the plunge, and boy am I glad I did.

Here are the Pros and Cons of the lovely Haan FS-20 steam cleaner:

PROS:

It cleans and sanitizes with water. You will no longer have to expose your family to harmful chemicals when you clean. It is safe for your children to crawl on the floor immediately after cleaning with the Haan Steam Cleaner.

I love the microfiber pads. The unit came with two pads that can be washed in your washing machine. They recommend that you hand wash, but lets be honest, who has the time for that. I have been throwing mine in the washing machine and hanging to dry for the past six months.

The steam cleaner is sturdy. It is lightweight, but the plastic is high quality. I never fear that it is going to break on me. Seriously the plastic is smooth and probably on par with little tykes toys in terms of quality.

The machine was easy to put together and pretty self explanitory. The handle extends with the push of a button for maximum steaming comfort.

It does clean the floor. I have two young children, a dog, two cats, and a lot of foot traffic. I use the steam cleaner about twice a week on our tile floors. The Haan Steamer cuts through kitchen spills and a toddler throwing food on the ground every time. The only reason I break out the traditional mop is to clean the grout. As for that other push cleaner, I think it is somewhere in the basement.

The Haan heats up quickly. It is ready to go in five minutes and has a light on the front that lets you know when the steamer is ready to go. I usually fill the Haan with a cup of water, plug it in, sweep up the floors and by the time I am done it is ready to go.

The Haan saves a ton of money. I am just using water to clean my floor and only one cup at that. No buckets, mops, or chemicals.

CONS:

The microfiber pads get dirty rather quickly. I am able to do one room per pad. The Haan came with two pads, but I would recommend getting more. I usually change pads mid cleaning.

My machine came with an attachment to place on the bottom of the Haan. It can be used to clean carpets, but the thing is it doesn't really clean the carpets. It steams them, kills bugs and mites, but does not pick up the dirt. I rarely use it because killing mites on my carpet isn't something that I feel I need to do. I guess this feature would be great if I had allergies, but for me the attachment just sits in a closet somewhere.

The machine is essentially a steamer. While it cuts through a lot of grime you will still have to get on your hands and knees to clean up grout and really messy, thick spills.

Overall I think this was one of the best purchases I have made in the past few years. I use it twice a week, my floors look great, and darn it I have saved enough money to pay for the machine. Anyone considering the Haan really should take the plunge. It is so worth it.

I bought the Shark steam cleaner. They sound like virtually the same machine. I like it, but as you say, you have to change the pads out mid-cleaning. Overall, I think if you have a good machine, they are the way to go versus the conventional mop and cleaner method. Lots easier on the people in the house and the environment. Excellent review!
