Haiku, and Another Earth Day Poem

Commemorating the 39th Earth Day (Yesterday 4/22/2009 and Everyday)

green dogwoods and white

An Earth Day Poem for Every Day
I
There is a heart in wild things
That knows all about timings
I have seen the early crocus
Ready to smile, die ... unlike us

II
There is a hope in wild things
That shames my doubtings
Flowery faith in spring never falters
When storms pass, or cold showers

III
In my balcony the dovelings stare
As I potter with plants here and there
Either they cannot fly off in fright
Or this fifth season, I'm a familiar sight

IV
The parents may recognize me
They know I stopped being angry:
With their stealing my flower pots
To lay eggs, thrice per season, (shoo rabbits!)

V
Today, a month after spring (officially)
The dovelings are ready to fly away
The parents have been nudging both
Off my hanging planter onto that oak

VI
As these softly hues mourning doves
Raise their broods, unlike our loves
They know "duty" and taking turns
Building, feeding, fledging ... as warmth returns

VII
I have seen many relays yearly through spring
As batons are passed ... bird to hatchling
Tuber to shoot and sumptuously colored blooms:
Cherry, Daffodil, lily, dogwood, rhodendrons
