Haiku and Sen'ryu
A Nature Poem, and My Cat Features in the Haiku that is Really a Hybrid, Called Sen'ryu
(i) haiku (without direct human presence)
fields turn green from brown
butterflies hover, first blooms ...
wild cat jumps: one less
(ii) sen'ryu (my cat)
My cat knows his rights:
Can-openers scream "tuna"
And then ... I must play!

- two haiku- about cats. Although the first is strictly haiku (nature-poem) ; the second is a sen'ryu
- since it is also about me while being about my cat, Sonny.
Sonny hears any can being opened and he demands to know if it is tuna! He is a smart fellow and insists he be treated as a human person. At age 11 he can jump really high with his toy (strings) that he places in my hand as often as possible.
