Hailee Steinfeld's Oscar Nomination is No Surprise

Expect More Great Performances from This Brilliant Actress

Hailee Steinfeld received an Oscar nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role in "True Grit." The 14-year-old actress has racked up a slew of nominations and awards for her first role in a major motion picture as the character Mattie Ross. Other nominees include, Amy Adams in "The Fighter," Helena Bonham Carter in "The King's Speech," Melissa Leo in "The Fighter," and Jacki Weaver in "Animal Kingdom."

Hailee Steinfeld and Justin Bieber were presenters at the Golden Globes, and we could see how poised and beautiful the young teen is. Steinfeld is mature for her age, and the only way we get a glimpse of some teen activity is on her Twitter, where the teen is quite active.

"I have to admit, I was VERY shy when I was standing next to Justin," Hailee tweeted.

And what about those Golden Globes after parties? No teenage drinking for this young star. "Yes, there was an after-party, but I had to go home. :(."

After Hailee got the role of Mattie Ross, she had to learn how to roll a cigarette and shoot a gun. Indeed, Hailee took care of all preparations, including making sure she read the book. What did Hailee have to say about the Coen brothers, who wrote and directed "True Grit," and who were impressed with the way Steinfeld handled the dialogue in the film? "I love that their greatest focus is making a great film, nothing else," said Hailee.

Will Hailee Steinfeld win the Oscar? Probably not. It will likely go to veteran actress Melissa Leo for "The Fighter." However, you never know. We were delighted to see Jennifer Hudson win the Oscar for Actress in a Supporting Role for "Dreamgirls."

In an interview with Scott Feinberg, Hailee said she lost out on other roles for feature films because she was too "green." Lack of experience or not, Hailee has proven herself with "True Grit," and we can expect to see more of the same.

What we don't want for the bright and talented actress is what has happened to other talented actresses or actors, such as Lindsay Lohan. Perhaps we have nothing to worry about for the girl who started a "Bad Boy Jar" for any actor on the set of "True Grit" who used profanity. Making actors put $5 in a jar if they swear is a fun way to let people know not to do it. (Of course, Hailee had to put 50 cents in the jar for every time she said the word "like.") Hailee donated the money to an Alzheimer's fund.
