Hair Extensions 101; Extend Life, Proper Shampooing and Drying

Angel Vee
Your tired of your short hair now, and want to add length quickly, what can you do? Try human hair hair extensions. This process can cost a bundle at a salon, instead opt for the clip in ones.

Which brand do you choose? Remy, Clover Leaf, Socap, Elite, and Sassy Silk are amongst the top brands to choose. However, I have ordered a set from a seller on Ebay, which cost me $63.00 dollars with shipping. Now this set was a 20 inch, which included 6 pieces to work on the entire head. The Human Hair Clip In Extensions come in various colors. Great choice for those on a tight budget.

Ok, you have your extensions, but please make sure to take care of them. Even though they are human hair they need just as much attention as your own hair. They can be quite fragile at times, and need certain procedures done to them before and after you wear them.

Extend The Life Of Your Extensions

When you receive the extensions they usually come in a plastic carrier, a big envelope, or just a plastic and cardboard wrap like the Sassy Silk ones come in. Where do you put them?

Do yourself a favor and invest the lousy $14.00 dollars and buy a storage case for them. I know Sally's carries one and if I remember correctly, it holds extensions that are anywhere from 8-18 inches long. I do not have one. However, I use the long food containers. They seem to help keep the moisture in the hair and prevent less tangles.

Shampoo Just As You Would Your Own Hair

Use a mild shampoo. If your extensions have been colored use a color protectant product. Place a small amount of shampoo to the hair extension, swish around using your fingers. Do NOT get too much soap buildup on the top. This can loosen up the glue, or the hair clip.

Repeat this procedure once a week, or twice a month depending on how dirty they get from the hair products if used. Don't forget to apply a light leave in conditioner. A little will go a long way.

Proper Drying

You can use a dryer, iron, flat iron, hot rollers, or allow them to air dry. If you insist on drying them, use a wet to straight iron. This will dry your hair and straighten it all at once. It will also give you shine.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use a vent brush this will get stuck. Use a paddle brush or a very wide comb. A hair pick will work as well. Using another type of brush will only cause breakage and damage to the hair extensions.
