Hair Falling Out, Brittle, Dry, and Very Color Resistant from Having a Thyroid Condition and Taking Levothyroxine?

Hair falling out, brittle, dry, and very color resistant from having a thyroid condition and taking Levothyroxine? When you are first diagnosed with a thyroid condition, most people will have fatigue, weakness, weight gain/ weight loss, and hair loss. Your hair might feel extremely dry, look frizzy, and the middle of the hair shaft and ends could be quite brittle.

Normally we lose 100 hairs a day. However, when dealing with a thyroid condition results can vary from month to month. Once you start on synthroid or levothyrozine, it'll seem like your hair is coming out in huge clumps. Sometimes the ends will just break right off. Don't panic, this is normal. For around the first 6 months your hair goes into a very delicate stage. If you decide to color your hair, the color might end up darker, a totally different shade then what you chose, or the color will make the texture of your hair so brittle it might fall off.

During this sensitive timing, try to use natural ways to color your hair such as hair rinses, clip in extensions, or wigs. Just until you bypass this period. The loss of hair from synthroid/levothyroxine will stop, but can hit you again at any time. And yes, the hair will grow back. Once the hair grows back you need to strengthen it up, and keep the hair well moisturized, especially at the roots and the ends where the hair is most fragile.

Ways To Restore And Make The Hair Stronger

Vitamins- Vitamins are very important to take. For those with a thyroid condition and hair loss vitamin B6, B12, and vitamin K are a must. While taking these vitamins, you can also get extra help from certain foods such as peppers for B6, spinach peas and carrots for vitamin K, clams, caviar, beef, and cheese for B12.

Right Shampoo And Conditioner

Now I'm not saying you have to buy the most expensive shampoo and conditioner, but do buy a protein and moisture product. A protein rich shampoo/conditioner will help strengthen the hair, restore any damage, and improve the texture and get rid of that nasty brittleness.

Some good shampoos are Tresemme Vitamin E Moisture Rich, Brazilian Keratin Therapy, Soft Sheen, Balsam & Protein Shampoo, and Biotene H-24 Shampoo. As far as conditioners go with Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner, Joico Body Luxe, Fastfood, and even Alberto VO5.

If your hair is still color resistant after the 6 months, read this article titled " Why Won't My Hair Hold Hair Color" . It will explain what you have to do,and what you need to make your hair grab the color correctly and evenly.
