Hair Falling Out from Overuse of Styling Products? Here's What You Can Do

Pandora Hall
These days what we look like has become an all too important factor on our success, so we do everything we can to make ourselves look better or younger. We style our hair, dye it, go tanning, and even more invasive tactics such as plastic surgery all keep us looking and feeling younger no matter what age our bodies have become. But is all of this good for you, or bad in the long run?

I have been dyeing and bleaching my hair for about eighteen years now and it has obviously taken a toll on my locks. After having long hair that went past my waist ending up breaking off to my shoulder blades I decided to do everything I can to fix the overall condition of my hair and to share my tips with those out there having the same problem.

Each and every time you dye your hair the follicles become weaker and become damaged, sometimes irreparable. After enough exposure to heat or chemicals your hair can develop split ends or even begin to break off or even fall out in patches. If you notice that your hair is becoming dried out from overexposure to heat or chemicals the first step is to discontinue whatever is damaging your hair. Once you stop causing more damage to it, you can then begin to try to repair it.

Hair that is broken, breaking or dried out can be repaired with a heavy dose of conditioning or hot oil treatments. Applying too much oil or conditioner is not good for the scalp and could cause your scalp to break out in itchy oil-filled bumps. If you already have an oily scalp, or just want to avoid getting it, start applying it to the ends first and work your way up the strands and stop an inch or two before the scalp. For a little extra conditioning, try wrapping your hair up in plastic wrap while the conditioner or oil treatment is doing its job; this will help your hair follicles open up and soak in the much-needed moisture. If you must dye your hair avoid using any kind of lightener as this will promote dryness.

Do this two to four times a week, or as often as needed and your hair will begin to repair itself in no time. Breakage, dryness, and split ends can be repaired by the use of at-home products, but if you are experiencing any kind of hair loss you should check with a doctor before doing anything else to your hair. Beautiful hair can be possible to have no matter how much you bleach or dye it, as long as you take care of it properly and keep it from drying out.
