How far you go with the masculine rage should depend on how feminine your features are to begin with. If you have sharp features like actress Hilary Swank, who played a very believable boy in "Boys Don't Cry", then you'll want to stay in the shallow end of this trend. However if you more resemble actress Natalie Portman, who completely shaved her head in "V is for
Vendetta" and still looked delicate and feminine then maybe you'll want to dive a little deeper.
Face and hair is where the manly look begins. The September issue of JANE magazine suggests a croppy bob hair cut with very thick eyebrows. I suggest choosing either one or the other. Adding a little weight to your eye brows can be very flattering, it draws attention to the eyes, giving a very dramatic look. Changing your brows also involves much less commitment than chopping off your hair, remember trends are just trends, rarely ever here for the long run. So, unless you already have or want a shorter hair do, do not cut off your locks for this seasons fads! There are plenty of ways to style your long mane to manish perfection. Next time you go to the mall check out those teenage boys on skateboards outside. Despite their mother's constant nagging they've let their hair grow out, it's parted down the middle and has that "I just rolled out of bed" look to it ( which they probably did). If your hair is shoulder-length or something close to it, this look can totally work for you. Just part down the middle and add a little wave or bend. I like using "John Frieda's Ocean Waves Sea Spray" it'll give you the textured look you want with the heavenly smell of coconut.
Another option for those of us with long locks is a pulled back twist. Starting with straight hair, part you hair down the middle and pull it back in a clip or band, twist up, and then create a spikey look in the back. The down the middle part give hair a masculine no fuss sort of feel to it, which is what we're going for this fall.
Make up this season should be dramatic, try rich off-red lip stains coupled with subtle eyes or strongly lined lower lids in black. When using eye liner on your lower lids use a white liner on the inner rim to keep your eyes looking open and wide. And throw out your oil blotting papers because a dewy glossy face is in. These ideas should help you stay in style this season without going overboard. Remember it'll only work on you if you feel comfortable and everyone is different so try these trends and personalize them to fit you.
