Hair Straightening Tips: How to Get Naturally Curly Hair to Stay Straight After Flatironing

Nanette Haz
`Flat ironing the hair properly can help visually see hair growth progress. Kinky or curly hair often appears to not be growing as fast. Flat ironing with the right products and tools is a great styling option for those with naturally curly hair. Hair that is straightens easily often appears dry and lifeless if too much heat is used on a daily basis. Here are some tips for achieving better results when flat ironing.

Investing in quality products is important when using heat tools. Using a cheap blow dryer or flat iron with metal non ceramic plates can ruin years of healthy hair growth. Preparing the hair by ensuring it is moist can give salon quality results at home when flat ironing.

Hair Steamer

Hair steamers can be purchased from local beauty supply stores. Many salons offer steaming treatments at affordable rates. This may add fifteen to twenty minutes to the hair appointment. The hair steamer helps penetrate the hair shaft. This is especially important for hair that is damaged, or to prepare the hair for straightening.

Best Flat Iron

Flat irons with steam help to get the hair straight without it smelling burnt. Some ceramic flat irons reach a high heat, but if too much product is used the burn smell is trapped within the hair. The steam that goes throughout the hair shaft helps to keep the ends from splitting. Steam based flat irons work well for women with naturally kinky or curly hair. Using a heat protect-ant before flat ironing helps to ensure that the hair will go back curly after washing.

Extremely curly hair types may have better results by removing any straightening pins from the flat iron plate before flat ironing. Maxi-glide hair straightener has a steam feature with remove-able plates in the XP model. Remember to press the steam button as the hair glides down the entire length of the hair. Chasing the hair with a melt proof comb is helpful for tightly coiled hair types without snagging and causing breakage.

Consider having a steaming treatment at a local salon if it is not possible to buy a hair steamer. Many beauty schools offer this treatment at an extremely discounted rate.

Straightening hair once with good results will result in less hair damage, and more length retention. Sleep on a silk pillow case or with a satin scarf to help keep the hair straight. Use these easy flat iron tips to get hair straight with better quality hair steamers and flat irons with steam.

Thanks for the information. I have naturally curly hair and love to see the look of my hair after I have flat ironed it. But it usually takes so long! That's what so off-putting about straightening my hair.
