Hair Weave Hype

Hair Weaves and Wigs Are Meant to Enhance Our Beauty Not Make Us Up

And Jada Pinkett Smith is a lovely and prime example of that. Look at her. She's natural, not over done and she's stunning without a bunch of make-up or an over-the-top hair style.

I went online today and caught a glimpse of an article about Eva Longoria going from short to long hair at the Guadalajara film festival this weekend. So often we hear people speak negatively about women who wear hair weaves/wigs. I don't see what all the hype is about. Hair weaves and wigs, pony tails, braids are simply accessories for a woman (and some men, quiet as it's kept). They're no different than a purse, a necklace, a belt and make-up. If you look good in your weave, I say rock it and worry not about the nay-sayers.

Unfortunately, not all of us can afford the fantastic, sometimes undetectable hair weaves we see on beautiful stars like Jada Pinkett Smith, Gabrielle Union and the likes, but that's okay. If we select a really good, talented hair stylist who knows what she's doing, we can have great hair weaves that are undetectable or sport a half wig that looks absoultely great. It's all in the cut and how it compliments your face and body.

The color and length are just as important. Some women just don't look right with really long hair and some do. Some of us can only dream about going blonde or platinum blonde while others wear it and own the look.

Jada once sported an ultra short, platinum look and rocked it! I saw several women try to emulate that look at they missed the mark entirely. One was walking around with burns on her hair line and nape and it was just a disaster. I have seen one girl wearing this blonde half-wig and she looks stunning.

Again, a hair weave should enhance your beauty not make you up and you shouldn't have to sleep sitting up just to rock a style and if you do, you may want to reconsider that style. Now Gabrielle is natural and stunning. Her hair matches the texture of the weave and the color is on point.

Wearing three styles on one head isn't exactly a fashion statement. It says something...what I don't know, but it's says something.

A conservative hairstyle speaks volumes - - just like an over-the-top one.

Whatever you wear, make a signature style and make it classy and sexy. These women look classy, professional and still very sexy.

My mother told me that whatever accessories I choose to wear should enhance my beauty not make me up. If I wear a weave it should be me; I should own the look and not be overpowered or made up because of it. Too much of anything is never good. Too much make-up, too dark, too loud; nails too long, too colored all of it over-done becomes burdensome and not pretty.

Which brings me to our next set of accessories:
Nails. You don't have to wear acrylic nails and they don't even have to be long, but they should be clean and well manicured and your polish (if you wear any) should never be chipped or faded.

Too long can look ridiculous. Too many colors plus sparkles looks very ghetto and tacky.
Simple can be just as pretty as color. Add a little sparkle and it pops. Too much and you look like the examples above.

If I had a nickle for every time I heard someone call a woman fake because she wore a weave or a wig and acrylic nails, I would be mega rich. Weaves and nails don't make you fake. Your demeanor, mentality and attitude make you fake and unlikeable.

I don't care if you wear your hair natural and sport your nails plain. All that says about you is that you have made a choice to not wear extensions. It doesn't make you a better woman and it doesn't make you real. You might sport a totally natural style and say you're "real", but you just might have a funky attitude and an even worse personality and all that makes you is real witch. Whether she's wearing a wig or a weave, when it looks good, compliment it and keep it moving. If you're standing around back biting women who sports wigs and weaves and they look good, you just might be what people call a hater. All that's talking is the jealousy within you.

If she's wearing a wig or weave that doesn't look right, you still don't have to talk about her. You might (if you're a "real" woman) take her to the side and nicely suggest a different style. Treat her the way you would want someone to treat you if you were sporting a bad hairstyle. Or look at it like this: when you ask your boyfriend if you look fat in a certain outfit or if you look fat period, you want him to be honest but tactful and certainly nice about it. You wouldn't be complimenting his "realness" if he came out and said, "Girl, you know you look fat. And all those rolls showing and that cellulite...you need to lose weight..." You would be offended and embarassed and maybe ready to clock his behind.

So keep it real with yourself and treat other people with dignity and respect.

Don't worry about what others say about hair weaves and wigs. Sometimes all of that negative talk is just envy. Whatever you wear, wear it modestly and make it classy. If wigs and weaves were all that bad they would not have lasted from the 60's until now. . All of us accessorize. Those things exist to enhance. Just keep in mind that there's a difference between being unique and totally ridiculous and you'll be just fine.

Happy hair weave wearing to all!
