1. Greeting of the client. This is important for the salon receptionist and for the hairstylist. Most of the time, the receptionist is the first person that the client sees. This person often sets the impression for your business and for your reputation. It is important to notice how the receptionist greets the client. Is the first thing they said "What time is your appointment and who is your stylist?" This is very ineffective! You want them to welcome your client to the salon. For example, they could say "Welcome to Nickole Hogan Hair Design! Are you here to see Julie?" This makes them feel important.
When you go to greet your client, welcome them with a hand-shake or hug, depending on how comfortable you are with them. Walk with them to your station, not in front of them. Get them seated and talk to them about how they are doing. Don't just go straight into what they need done to their hair.
2. It's all in the details. Now you can practice your listening skills. When your client talks you should ask questions and remember what they are telling you. It is hard to remember details so I always keep a client file with information about them and their services. Next time they come in, you will impress them when you ask how their daughter's dance recital went.
3. Thank you! A simple thank you note goes a lot way. Write a thank you note the same day and mail it within a day or two. The sooner you mail it, the better. Make sure that it is a hand written note. It is more personable and it will help reinforce that you truly care about the client and their hair.
Now that you have reviewed my most effective marketing strategies, you can begin to grow your business.
