Haiti Earthquake: How to Aid Haiti Earthquake Victims and Donate to Relief Funds

Donate to Relief Funds for Haiti Earthquake Victims Needs

Marie M. Daniels
On January 12, 2010 an earthquake of 7.0 magnitude shook the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The death toll is still unknown although over 100,000 are feared dead. The Haiti earthquake death toll will be unknown for a while as clean up is continued and more contact can be made. Many people are concerned for those living there knowing that the area is one of the poorest in western hemisphere.

Many large corporations have already pledged huge amounts of money to go to the aid of the Haiti earthquake victims. Many others want to find ways to donate to the Haiti earthquake relief funds. People just want to help raise awareness about the need in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and show Haitians they support them. So as you can imagine the social networks such as Twitter and Facebook are being used as communication tools and as a way to get aid to the Haitian earthquake victims. It is wonderful to see so many different cultures around the globe to support a country in need.

There are many Haitian earthquake relief funds that you can donate your time and money to that are known and trusted. The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross, and Samaritan's Purse have all rallied and are taking donations for the Haiti Quake Relief funds. Many supplies and volunteers have already been dispatched but with so many hurting and homeless after the Haitian quake more is necessary to their survival and eventual rebuilding.

If you are looking for other ways to give and other places to donate to the Haiti earthquake disaster funds there are plenty out there. In the news recently Pat Robertson has been quoted as commenting, "... Something happened a long time ago in Haiti. ...They got together and swore a pact to the Devil..." No matter what Pat Roberson comments on about the relationship of Haiti and the Devil the 700 Club has already sent medical supplies and will be sending many more supplies as time goes on. So if you don't care about Haiti's supposed pact with the devil and Haiti's curse then you can give through the 700 Club.

You may have heard statements made by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and how the U.S. is sending troops today to help out in Haiti. Clinton also warns of the Haiti earthquake death toll reaching into the tens of thousands. Even former president Bill Clinton has asked people to donate for the Haiti quake victims, asking them to donate to the Clinton Foundation. So the Clinton Foundation is another place that you can donate your money to for the Haiti quake victims.

If you happen to be a doctor or nurse who wants to donate your skills and time to the Haitian earthquake victims they need you also. A program called Doctors Without Boarders that is an international medical organization of volunteer doctors and nurses that helps people in times of catastrophe like those involved in the Haiti earthquake. Even if you are not a doctor you can donate to Doctors Without Boarders like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who have reportedly donated $1 million for their efforts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Giving and donating to Haiti earthquake relief funds can be a great thing and help many, many of the poor and suffering in Haiti. If you are going to donate money you need to go with a trusted non-profit organization or one that you have researched. There will be Haiti relief scams out there trying to convince you to give them some of your money and it will never get to where you intended it to go. You cannot let those scammers stop you from giving to Haiti earthquake funds, just be smart about where and who you are donating to.

A very effective organization which has helped in disasters all over the world is Hands On Disaster Relief (www.hodr.org) . They were in Haiti last year helping rebuild after the Hurricane. The organization facilitates ordinary people helping out; it goes where other NGO's only permit "professionals" and organizes citizen volunteers who want to roll up their sleeves and help out others. Tens of thousands of people from around the world, have volunteered through Hands On - from teenagers to seniors, from Amish, to college kids on break. Its a great organization and could use money and volunteers.

Great article! I donated through some gaming channels via Facebook and Pogo, and I am glad I was able to do so. I wrote an article on how anyone can put together a health kit for anyone suffering abroad. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2612069/kiowa_kindergarteners_help_haitians.html?cat=48
