Haiti Needs Help from Everyone

Most people in Charlotte realize Haiti was hit with a 7.0 earthquake on January 12th. People are now looking for ways they may be able to help.

In Charlotte, the local American Red Cross will accept your donations to help Haiti. You may also text the word Haiti to 90999 to give $10 to this group. If you prefer to go online, the site is www.redcross.org . To donate by phone call 800-REDCROSS.

UNICEF will be taking donations online at www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake. You can also donate by phone at 800-4UNICEF.

For the Salvation Army's World Services group: www.salvationarmyusa.org and by calling 800-SALARMY. If you choose to mail a check be sure to designate that it is for the Haiti Earthquake and use this address: The Salvation Army World Service Office, International Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 630728, Baltimore, MD 21263-0728

Local groups that will be accepting donations for Haiti's earthquake victims includes most churches in Charlotte. Contact the church of you choice in Charlotte for more details or use some of the links provided.

The Charlotte Presbyterian churches are looking for volunteers who can go to Haiti to help with relief efforts. Also cash donations as well as disaster relief kits as needed. See the Presby site for details.

When donating for the current Haiti relief effort The Better Business Bureau suggests those making donations exercise caution. Donating through groups you usually prefer may be best.
