Haiti Relief Efforts Continue Through Charlotte Churches and Others

Haiti Relief Efforts Through Private Citizens and Churhes in the United States Continue

Pat Anthony
Relief for Haiti will continue to be a priority for many Charlotte Churches. Since the earthquake on January 12th of 2010, local residents and members of Charlotte Churches have collected food and health supplies for Haiti.

While relief for Haiti is not a new effort for some churches in Charlotte, others were not as involved previously as they are now. Many Charlotte residents feel an urgency to bring what they can to collection points as they see time running out for some who survived the earthquake in Haiti.

The churches collecting items for Haiti are asking for food in pop-top cans, peanut butter, water and health items. The list of donations includes deodorant, sleeping bags, tents, clothes, flashlights and batteries, as well as solar powered lanterns and flip flops.

Donations may be made to the Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road in Charlotte. Haitian Heritage & Friends of Haiti is partnering with Myers Park United Methodist Church. For more details please contact Sabine Guerrier @ 704-890-9903.

Some members of the Myers Park UMC were in Haiti when the earthquake occurred. Once they returned to Charlotte they immediately helped with relief efforts for Haiti.

Donations may also be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte. Pam Carter, a member of this church, and married to the senior pastor, Dr. Kenneth Carter, was in Haiti when the earthquake happened. Members of her church have been helping Haiti for several decades, and began collecting items for the new relief effort before Carter returned to Charlotte.

Many residents of Haiti were facing food shortages before the earthquake. As this is one of the poorest countries known to relief agencies, Haiti has long been on the minds of Charlotte Church members.

Haiti relief efforts will continue through Charlotte Churches as well as through The Salvation Army, The Red Cross, and other groups listed below.

They need so much. Such a poor country to begin with. We sent money and my 80 year old mom told me to send money which I did.
