Haiti Relief Fund Fueled by Motorsports Racing Community

NASCAR and Indy Car Teams, Sponsors and Fans Race to the Rescue

The motorsports racing community has a long history of participating in fund raising events. Their giving spirit is now focused on providing relief to Haiti by donating medical supplies, food, water, and cash to the earthquake ravished island.

NASCAR and Indy Car race teams, sponsors and fans are fueling Haiti relief fund raising efforts by joining forces with trustworthy charity organizations. At present, the motorsports community has donated over $2 million to Haiti relief organizations.

Hendrick Motorsports team owner, Rick Hendrick is reported to have loaned two of the NASCAR team's private planes to Missionary Flights, International; a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of missionaries in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Hendricks' planes have been responsible for taking much needed supplies and support teams to Haiti in the aftermath of the 7.0 earthquake that occurred January 12, 2010. On Tuesday, January 19th, Hendricks reported transporting 26 Haitian orphans to be united with their American families.[1] Hendricks is covering the cost of daily flights for both planes.

Missionary Flights, International requires numerous supplies including life jackets, life rafts, and DC-3 airplane tires. Individuals and groups can volunteer to 'Adopt a Project' or work as volunteers to load supply planes, sort mail, or become a flight attendant for relief efforts in Haiti. Cash donations are also welcome. Learn more by visiting www.MissionaryFlights.org.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation has embarked on a Haiti Relief fund raising campaign by offering racing items and autographed memorabilia through eBay. Race fans can purchase a piece of motorsports history while helping provide money to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief organization.

eBay auction motorsports items include a 2009 Indy 500 milk bottle autographed by Helio Castroneves, Johnny Rutherford autographed IMS Centennial Era baseball cap, Dario Franchitti enlarged replica 2009 Indy 500 ticket, 2009 Indy Car Series autographed racing helmet with 21 Indy car driver signatures, Ed Carpenter autographed Vision Racing team jersey, and a VIP ticket package to the 2010 Indianapolis 500. Discover more Indy Car Racing eBay auction items at eBay.com. New items will be added in the coming weeks, so check the auction daily for updates.

Motorsports racing fans can receive a 20-percent savings on their purchase at Brickyard Authentics retail stores by making a $5 donation to support Haiti relief efforts. This offer is only valid at retail stores located at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum and the Indianapolis International Airport.

Motorsports racing sponsor, Go Daddy, recently contributed $500,000 to Hope for Haiti. Go Daddy has sponsored numerous race car drivers including Ron Fellows, Brad Keslowski, Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Danica Patrick.

Founded by JoAnne Kuehner of Naples, Florida, Hope for Haiti is "dedicated to improving quality of life for the Haitian people through education, nutrition and healthcare."[2] Hope for Haiti volunteer opportunities include fund raising and special events volunteers, medical volunteers, and cash donations.

Medical professionals are strongly encouraged to submit volunteer applications via the Hope for Haiti website. Haiti desperately needs all the medical help they can get. Cash donations can be made using Paypal via their website at www.HopeForHaiti.com.

Motor Racing Outreach is a non-profit organization which has been serving the NASCAR Sprint Cup racing community since 1998. MRO is an inter-denominational Christian ministry which offers an array of counseling services and trauma response to the motorsports community. They have joined forces with World Vision to provide donations to the Haiti Relief Fund. To support MRO fund raising efforts visit FirstGiving.com.

Motorsports racing fans can provide cash donations directly to the American Red Cross International Response Fund at www.RedCross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS. Race fans can also text "Haiti" to 90999 via their cell phone to send a $10 donation which will be added to their cell phone bill.

Nearly every racing venue across the United States is embracing the nation of Haiti. Many opportunities exist for fans to donate to Haiti relief efforts by participating in community racing events. Together, the motorsports community can make a difference for the people of Haiti.

I'm so glad all these organizations are coming together to help Haiti. For some reason, I just feel so bad this time. I always wish I could fix the world, but for some reason, this time, I just feel completely horrible.
