Hotel Reward Points Are Being Accepted as Donations

The following Philadelphia organizations are accepting donations toward Haitian Earthquake Relief through their websites, and several hotel chains are permitting members of their rewards clubs to donate their reward points toward Haitian relief efforts.

1. The Samuel Dalembert Foundation is a charity started by Sixers player Samuel Dalembert, who was born in Haiti. Samuel Dalembert presented a check for $100,000 as his initial contribution to Haiti Earthquake Relief. Any donations made through the Dalembert Foundation will be channeled to the Red Cross, Feed the Children, Unicef and Project Medishare. Website.

2. The Haitian Professionals of Philadelphia are accepting donations for Haitian earthquake relief, and have a list of requested items to be donated, as well as drop-off locations, and information on how to volunteer in the relief effort, both in Haiti and Philadelphia. Website.

3. Philadelphia Hotels: Philadelphia's hotels are accepting cash donations, payroll deductions and loyalty membership points toward Haitian earthquake relief.

-- Marriott International Inc.'s "Spirit to Serve" program has organized worldwide relief efforts. The company has already donated $500,000 to the Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund, and is allowing people to donate to Haitian earthquake relief through their Marriott rewards points. -- Hilton Hotels Corp., which manages and owns the Doubletree Hotel Philadelphia and Hilton Inn at Penn in University City, among others, will match member donations towards Haitian earthquake relief up to $250,000 through its loyalty guest program, Hilton HHonors. The money will be directed to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Webpage.

-- Starwood Hotels and Resorts, manager of the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel, is matching donations to the Starwood Associate Relief Fund and UNICEF up to $100,000 for Haitian earthquake relief. Until February 15th, guests can donate their Starwood Preferred Guests points to the Red Cross. Donation link.

-- Hyatt Hotels Corp.'s Gold Passport members can donate 5,000 points for a $40 donation to the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. To donate Hyatt Gold Passport points, email goldpassport@hyatt.com or call 1-800-228-3360.

-- Best Western: Best Western Reward members can contribute rewards points to the Haitian earthquake relief effort, which will be funneled through Best Western's official charity partner, World Vision. To donate, login to your Best Western Rewards account. Webpage.

-- Wyndham: Visit this webpage to donate to the Haitian Relief fund with your Wyndham Rewards. Designate funds for Haiti under the "Disaster Relief" category. These funds will go to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Magen David Adom.

    I think that Philadelphia is synonymous with freedom, and it's therefore appropriate for it to be part of of Haitian Relief efforts.
