Haleigh Cummings Case: Searcher Believes the Missing Girl is Dead

A Concise Synopsis of the Case from the Night She Disappeared

Sheryl Jester
What really happened to Haleigh Cummings? This little girl has disappeared and no one can find her. The clues are far and few between. She was reported missing at around 3:30 AM on Feb. 10, 2009. The phone call to 911 was made by her babysitter, who was also her father's girlfriend. Misty, the babysitter/girlfriend reported that she woke up and saw the number 3 on the clock and got up. She has given 3 different reasons why she got up: to use the bathroom, to get a drink and because she saw the kitchen light on. And, we can't seem to get a straight answer on where Haleigh was sleeping. At first Misty reported she was sleeping with her in a queen size bed in the master bedroom, and that Haleigh's little brother was also sleeping in the same bed with them. The next story is that Haleigh was sleeping on a mattress on the floor 3 inches from Misty. There is still a 3rd story that Haleigh was asleep on a mattress about 3 to 4 feet from Misty. This whole case is plagued with 3's.

After Misty is up, whatever the reason, she supposedly returns to the bedroom because the back door was open. She is going to call her boyfriend, Haleigh's dad to let him know it is open and to see if he locked it. When she gets back to the bedroom she notices that Haleigh is gone. She then goes to the front porch and Ron is just arriving home. She tells him and then he tells her to call 911. So 911 if finally called and the police arrive.

Not all the discrepancies are with Misty though. Ron can't seem to get his work hours right. He was supposedly working that night; the police confirm he was working. The police haven't released the information they have because this is still an ongoing investigation. His work hours have been reported from 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM. It's been reported that he went to work at 3:30 that he got off at 12:00, and other combinations.

Misty, Ron and Ron's mom have all said they were the one to pick Haleigh up from school on Feb. 9. Ron's grandmother, 2 weeks into the investigation, says she was over at the house and saw Haleigh on Feb. 9, eating supper at 7:00 on the front porch with her brother. Weather data shows it was a cool Florida evening, to cool to be eating outside that late. And, why wasn't this reported sooner, why wait 2 weeks?

Strangely, Ron and Misty got married a month after Haleigh has disappeared. This was not a pre-planned wedding, he proposed to Misty at Chili's restaurant with his family present. Misty was given a ring that belonged to Ron's mom. After the minister at the church refuses to perform the ceremony they get married at an outdoor ceremony with a Justice of the Peace as officiate. They claim they are getting married because Haleigh wanted them to. This wedding takes place as searchers are out searching for Haleigh.

The disappearance of little Haleigh, who turned 6 years old in August, is a mystery. It is riddled with lies, deception, drugs, arrest, and failed lie detector tests. And, even the recent divorce of Ron and Misty.

Haleigh's mother, Crystal and her family seemed devastated with everything that has and is going on. After more than 8 months there still is no answer as to what happened to this little girl who disappeared while sleeping in her own home.

This is a very brief synopsis of what is going on and has gone on with this case of the missing Haleigh Cummings. My information comes from many different sources, such as newspapers, blogs, and forums, so I won't guarantee that all of this is 100% correct. I've tried to outline what I think are some of the more basic information as I understand it.

As I type this, I have Nancy Grace broadcasting on The Nancy Grace Show on the HLN network. She is announcing that searchers are leaving; they no longer believe Haleigh is alive. This is just such a tragedy. I wish there was a way to make these people tell the truth. The police continue to say that Misty is the key to solving this case.

I believe in the power of positive thinking. I'm a mother of 5, all grown, and I've 3 grandchildren that I spoil. Life is full of joy and I am here to live it. I am an explorer, a reader, a writer, a think...  View profile

This is just so sad and they still don't know what happened to her.

How someone can harm a child is beyond me. Kids are suppose to be able to trust adults. In today's world its starting to get almost impossible.

There was one spot in the 911 call when Mistey said she was cleaning house. It was in the begining of the call.Shortly after she said she was sleeping.

This news, more and more frequent, disturbs me immensely. It is hard to have any faith, especially in people with these idiots running around.

I say give Misty and/ or Ron a barbituate. Same as truth serum. That is if they have nothing to hide. Makes it very hard to make up a story and they find it easy to tell the truth.I know it works very well.

Excellent point, Vincent. Our world today is terrifying for me as a mother...trying to protect our children and keep them from harm...

One thing is for certain: Nothing goes unseen.

That is so sad, and it sounds very suspicious. I hope they find out what really happened.
