New Development in the Haleigh Cummings Case

Pearl Grace
Earlier today, authorities searched the St. John's River in Satsuma, Florida for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings. She disappeared about a year ago, according to ABC News. A lieutenant for the Putnam County, Florida Sheriff's Department acknowledged to ABC News they had received a tip regarding the case of this missing little girl that triggered their search.

Haleigh Cummings Disappearance

Ronald Cummings reported his daughter, Haleigh Cummings missing in a 911 call he placed on February 10, 2009. ABC News reports that Cummings had left Haleigh in the care of his 17-year-old then-girlfriend, Misty Croslin earlier that day. Ronald Cummings also left his 3-year-old son in Croslin's care that day who was fine when Cummings arrived home from work.

Croslin claims she was sleeping with Haleigh beside her. When Croslin awoke, Haleigh Cummings was reportedly nowhere to be found. Over four thousand tips to the police about the Haleigh Cummings disappearance have been provided but no real evidence or trace of Haleigh Cummings has materialized.

What the Police Know About the Haleigh Cummings Case

Although police claim that Haleigh Cummings was probably taken by someone the family knows, they have offered little other information about Haleigh going missing. About a month after Haleigh Cummings' disappearance, Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin were married, according to Fox News. The public and the media have eyed both Ronald Cummings and Croslin suspiciously but no real evidence against either of them has been found.

Haleigh Cummings' biological mother, Crystal Sheffield has been cooperative with the authorities and insists she has no idea what happened to Haleigh, according to another Fox News report. In that same report, Croslin and Ronald Cummings are said to have taken and "passed" a polygraph exam, announcing this information on a live Greta Van Susteren show.

Update on Haleigh Cummings Father and Step-Mother

Nancy Grace at CNN reported on March 31, 2010 that Ronald Cummings and Misty Croslin, now married, made court appearances in Putnam County, Florida courts. Numerous drug trafficking charges, including procuring and selling prescription analgesic medications have been brought against Ronald Cummings and Croslin. These charges are not related to Haleigh Cumming's disappearance.

What Really Happened to Little Haleigh Cummings?

Some might say this is just another missing child case and that Haleigh Cummings will most likely never be found. However, so many questions exist:

Who took Haleigh Cummings from the bed in her own home on February 9-10, 2009?

Why did he/she/they take her? Is she still alive? If so, where is she?

If not, how did she die?

And if Haleigh Cummings is deceased, where are her remains?

Was her father, Ronald Cummings or her mother, Crystal Sheffield involved?

How about her father's girlfriend-now wife, Misty Croslin?
