It wasn't quite a year ago that my oldest sister Joy was told that the breast cancer she was diagnosed with in 2008 was gone finally after chemotherapy, medications, and two surgeries.

This past September she had a second reconstruction surgery on the one year anniversary of her first surgery. Now she sports a pink, silver, and gold Cancer Warrior necklace that reads "Survivor."

Ever ran or walked in a relay in a half marathon?

If you participate in Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Inaugural Marathon for the Cure at the Rock n' Roll Dallas Half Marathon this year, there is a two-person relay now.

The event, to be held March 14, has registration at http://www.komenteammarathon.org/Rock__n__Roll_Dallas_Half_Marathon.htm. The beautiful 13.1 mile course which starts at Dallas City Hall downtown includes bands at every mile, cheer squads throughout, and fun around every corner, according to the site.

The goal is for 500 participants to join to raise more than a million dollars in the fight against breast cancer.

Online registration closes March 7. After that date you can register at any Luke's Locker location.

At the Fifth sold-out "Frogs for the Cure" game sponsored by Texas Christian University (TCU) in a five-year partnership with Susan G. Komen for the CureĀ®, the school was creative in raising money.

"We are so excited to have been presented a check from TCU from 'Frogs for the Cure' for $26,656.68," states a Komen Tarrant County New Link newsletter.

In unrelated cancer news, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's First Purple Stride DFW raised over $183,700. (Source: Virginia Griffin).

Margie Sullivan is a three-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, member of the Survivor and Caregiver Network, and the facillitator of a survivors' group in Virginia Beach, VA.

Today she uses her skills to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, according to pancan.org.

"When I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006, I felt very alone," Sullivan said. "A few weeks into my therapy, I received a call from Ellen Zeltmann, the Tidewater affiliate coordinator for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network."

As Sullivan continued treatment she began to attend meetings hosted by the group and met a few other survivors, a press release states.

"With help from our local affiliate as well as referrals from medical personnel and area clergy, I began to connect with other survivors," she writes. "Also, as part of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's Survivor and Caregiver Network, I feel privileged to join others on their journeys."
