Half Moon Resort in Jamaica: A Great Honeymoon Destination

Chris Radtke
My new wife and I recently spent our honeymoon at the Half Moon Resort in Jamaica. Half Moon Resort is located in Montego Bay on some 400 acres of land, and the Half Moon Resort is absolutely beautiful. The most difficult portion of the honeymoon was the planning process. It was sometimes difficult to find good information and reviews on a number of different resorts. Hopefully, this article will make it a little easier for some future honeymooners who may be interested in the Half Moon Resort in Jamaica.

Though there were not many, I'll begin with the negatives that I took away from our stay at the Half Moon Resort in Jamaica:

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Negative #1 - Very little nightlife

The Half Moon caters to a more refined crowd. While there are definite advantages to this strategy, the nightlife is lacking on the resort. On our honeymoon, this gave me more time to spend alone with my wife. But, if you're looking for a resort where you can dance and party it up all night long, Half Moon Resort may not interest you.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Negative #2 - Few people

It is very nice to have a relaxed and isolated atmosphere. However, at times it felt a little lonely at Half Moon Resort. This is not a huge drawback for Half Moon Resort, but on a few occasions I wished there were a few more people around.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Negative #3 - Little shopping

The Half Moon Resort has a below-average amount of shopping. There are not very many stores, and they mainly sell souvenirs. When we searched for some nice gifts to help remember the trip, jewelry was the only real option.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Negative #4 - Cost

The prices at the Half Moon Resort are not cheap. There are usually some deals to help make the resort less cost prohibitive, but unless you are well off, it is the kind of resort you visit for a very special occasion.

Now, for the positives:

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Positive #1 - Luxury

Everything about the Half Moon Resort is very nice and very luxurious. The landscaping and architecture are gorgeous. Overall, Half Moon Resort is very posh.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Positive #2 - Good Service

We began our stay at the Half Moon Resort with some confusion as to our reservation. The staff was extremely helpful and resolved the situation very quickly. I also made the unfortunate mistake of stepping on a sea urchin in the ocean. Half Moon Resort has a nurse station that took care of me right away.

In general, everywhere we went at the Half Moon Resort we experienced excellent service and a feeling of welcome.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Positive #3 - Great Dining

There are a wide variety of restaurants at the Half Moon Resort. We found each of them to be delicious. On the casual side, The Royal Stocks is an English Pub with the typical fish and chips-type fare, and Akbar features great Indian/Thai food.

The more formal restaurants are the Seagrape Terrace which includes a view of the beach, Il Giardino which serves great Italian food, and The Sugar Mill. The Sugar Mill was our favorite and offered terrific food and a romantic atmosphere.

Half Moon Resort Jamaica Positive #4 - Lots of Activities

We took advantage of a lot of the activities offered at Half Moon. We went parasailing, sailing, swimming with the dolphins, the glass bottom boat, and swimming in the numerous pools and in the ocean.

Half Moon Resort also offers horseback riding, tennis, windsurfing and numerous other activities.

Overall, Half Moon Resort Jamaica was very enjoyable and a great honeymoon destination. My wife and I enjoyed our time there and look forward to going back in the future (when we can afford to).
