Hallmark Movies for the Holidays Offer Great Messages of the Season

David Lindberg
Hallmark does have the ability to know how to touch the heart with some excellent movies during the Christmas season. If you have the Hallmark channel (HALMRK) or the Hallmark Movie Channel (HMC), you will find many of these holiday movies great ways to remember the many reasons why we love this time of the year. There are also many of us who find the holidays to be a difficult time of the year, due to the loss of a loved one, a tragic event or just because of being alone, suffering the loss of a job, a home or in need of the basic necessities of life. Although some of these Hallmark movies can have similarly sad or tragic events within the stories, they offer a message of home, love and the value of looking for the blessings we do have in our lives, or that by offering help or kindness to another can offer the largest of life's fortunes that does not involve money.

One of these Hallmark gems is "A Christmas Visitor" (2002), which can be found on Amazon.com or through the various rental sites. The story line is appropriate for these times as it is about a family that suffered the loss of their son during the Gulf War. The parents also have a daughter who has cancer, so the family has little to celebrate about Christmas, as they only feel lost, despair and hopelessness. Then a stranger appears to need their help and a place to stay the night on Christmas Eve. The stranger becomes their center of family's hope for Christmas and the future.

A cold weekend day of staying at home and decorating while watching some of these Hallmark holiday movies can be a great way to feel the reason for the season, and a break from our everyday hectic lives, especially as we tend to get caught up in rushing around with the multiple tasks on our minds. Stop and plan to spend some time to think about why we really love this time of the year so much.
