Halloween 2010 Events in New York City

For those that love Halloween, New York City is full of things to do and places to go to have fun and give yourself a fright. From parties to haunted houses, there is more than enough to keep you busy on Halloween and for weeks beforehand. Come out and play, Halloween 2010 in NYC may be the best one yet.

Vortex Theater's NYC Halloween Haunted House

When you walk through a haunted house, one of the major rules usually in place is that the actors are not allowed to touch you. If you are completely comfortable with that rule then Vortex Theater's NYC Haunted House may not be for you, but it should be. They are allowed to touch you...and they will. You also have to walk through the darkness all alone and face your fears by yourself. Each experience is approximately twenty minutes per person. Before entering, you must sign a waiver and no one under 18 is admitted. The fun and fear starts October 12^th and ends on Halloween. The hours are 7p - 11p from Tuesday to Friday and 5p - 11p on Saturday and Sunday.

New York's Village Halloween Parade

New Yorkers know how to party and the Village Halloween Parade is essentially one giant party with the strangest and most fantastic costumes you can imagine. There are puppets, music, dancers and plenty of characters to gawk at. If you would rather not watch from the sidelines, you can participate and actually walk in the parade as long as you're in costume. This year the parade is on Sunday, October 31^st and takes place from 7p to 10p on 6^th Avenue from Spring Street to 21^st Street.

Nightmare: Superstitions

Nightmare: Superstitions is set in an insane asylum and forces you to come face-to-face with your fears. You walk through in a group of approximately fifteen people which is a good thing because chances are you will grab the arm of whomever you go with, or a stranger, whichever comes first. They do not allow the admission of children younger than seven and anyone younger than twelve must be accompanied by a guardian. Each experience lasts approximately 30 minutes. Nightmare: Superstitions takes place from September 24^th to November 6^th.

Madame Tussauds After Dark

If you've been to the famous wax museum before, this is your chance to experience it in a whole new way. An event that is a separate cost from general admission, the experience takes place from October 21^st-24^th and October 28^th - 31^st from 9pm to 1am. In addition to the interactive experience, you will learn about about how Madame Tussaud was forced to make death masks from executed nobles. How many other chances will you have to be in the dark with wax figures staring at you?

I cannot guarantee that you won't need a new pair of pants after some of these events. One or more of these events may scare the hell out of you, but that's all part of the fun of Halloween. You never know what you'll find around each corner but, in New York City, anything is possible.
