Halloween Activities for Families with Kids in LaGrange, Georgia

Amy Stepp
When I was growing up, Halloween meant you traveled door to door with your friends asking strangers for candy. Your parents were able to let you go without them and knew your were safe because the neighborhood I lived in was still the type of place where you could leave your doors unlocked and go to bed, and this was even in a big city. Since then I have moved to more of a country setting, and now I have children of my own.

The day and time we are living in, I would never allow them to do what I did as I grew up. Strangers these days are pedophiles, drug dealers and so many more bad things. On top of all that, the country setting we are living in does not provide up with much door to door trick or treating unless we drive around in the car and allow the kids to get out at every house we see.

I am very thankful that living in LaGrange, Georgia has now provided many Halloween fun family opportunities where we can take our children to and know they are safe and able to enjoy the festivities for what they are worth. Below are three different locations around LaGrange, Georgia that have great Halloween activities for different age groups of kids!

Trick Or Treating On The Square
This is a family activity for children who are birth to at least ten years old. I think after they hit ten they really don't want to be see in public with their moms and dads. Trick or Treating on the square happens in downtown LaGrange. Up and down Bull Street and Main Street retailers will pass out candy to all kids who open their bags. Even some of the retailers get dressed up themselves. After you have your bags full, you can go onto the square where there is a chili cook off contest going on and many booths set up throughout the square with games and activities for children to do, like ring toss or bean bag toss, and this is offered by the LaGrange college fraternities and sororities. Times are on Halloween night from 4-6, that is the trick or treating, and then the other activities are already going on starting around 2 in the afternoon!

New Community Church
Located at 1200 South Davis Road in LaGrange, Georgia, New Community Church offers trunk or treat during Halloween. This is one of the biggest trunk or treats in LaGrange, Georgia. Members (and non-members) of the church line up their cars in the parking lot and offer candy from their trunks. Some people even get in the spirit of things and decorate their cars to match the Halloween festivities. Their is also a number of other Halloween events that go on at this church during trunk or treat like bobbing for apples, inflatables for children, music, food and games. This is a great event for families with kids of all ages. Families can go to NCC to participate in the activities and know their children are in a safe religious atmosphere. The festivities usually start around 5 to 6 pm.

Faith Baptist Church
Faith Baptist offers a different Halloween experience for families that have children who are in their teens and older. Once a year FBC creates a real life experience called Judgment Journey. You will walk through a 45 minute trail that allows you to witness events of the end of the world through a Christians eyes. This experience will change your mind and soul forever. It is not meant to be a Haunted House, however a soul changing walk that will make you think about where you are heading. Many people have walked away a different person. The church started doing this presentation back in 1997 to get the kids off the streets on Halloween and out of trouble. 13 years later, it is still growing strong and now noticed throughout the country. Tickets for this event will sell out fast, so make sure you check out their website, www.judgmentjourney.com for all the information of ticket prices, directions and numbers. It is definitely something all families should check out together.
