Halloween Activities in Richmond, Virginia

Grey

A very brief history of Richmond: Before the actual city even existed, in 1611, it was home to the first hospital in North America. At the dawn of the Revolutionary War she was the ear to some of the greatest words ever spoken, the voice of Patrick Henry's "give me liberty or give me death…" speech rang through her. She was led by some of the greatest men to have set foot on American soil. The Capitol Building was designed by Thomas Jefferson, Virginia's second governor, it stands for the freedom that Americans fought for. As the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War, she witnessed death and destruction, in a war against brothers. She's been home to Edgar Allan Poe, who is today the country's most read poet. Her Hollywood Cemetery holds the bodies of presidents.

You can see that Richmond has had a long and passionate history. Does she still hold these spirits, of the Revolutionary Hero's, the Civil War soldiers, the poet's troubled soul? Find out. Halloween was one thought to be a night when the dead could return to earth, and once again walk amongst us. The question is, who shall you walk with?
