Nestled in the hills of White Lake, the proverbial sleepy hamlet of Montague celebrates Halloween with the annual Pumpkinfest. Every mid October the organizers set up a pumpkin pie contest, pumpkin painting and carving contest, seed spitting contest, as well as the biggest pumpkin weigh in. However, most children come for the main event. For a couple hours the city closes one of the principal streets which encompasses a large, steep hill for the pumpkin roll. Merely for the fun of it, hundreds of children launch their gourds down Dowling Street just to see them splat.
Further north located in the outskirts of the tiny village of New Era, Lewis Farms offers year round entertainment. When the weather cools Halloween traditions come out in full force. In addition to the farms petting zoo and large inflatable jump pillow Fall marks the opening of additional activities special to the season.
A corn maze can offer a challenge to even the wisest problem solvers. While a hayride offers a relaxing view for those who wish to take in the picturesque landscape of the changing leaves. For the younger kids a tractor train give toddlers a tour of the apple orchard.
After the riding attractions youngsters head to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect jack-o-lantern. Most take a brief moment to watch the fruit flinging catapults and the pumpkin canon. And what trip to the farm would be complete without stopping for apple cider and doughnuts at the main farmhouse.
