Easy to Make Halloween Cakes

Amy Brantley
Halloween is right around the corner and there are so many different decorations, costumes, and candies to choose from. While your local store may offer several creative choices for these items, it may be hard to find a Halloween cake that is truly original. Luckily, there are several Halloween cakes that are easy to make at home. All of these Halloween cakes use cake mixes, frosting, and candy that can be found at your local grocery store. Also, these Halloween cakes are very easy to make and decorate.

Halloween Cake Ideas #1: Attack of the Giant Spiders Theme

This Halloween cake idea is great for kids and adults. All you need to make this Halloween cake is a chocolate cake mix (plus the ingredients to make it), chocolate frosting, coconut, green food coloring, three large gummy spiders, black M&Ms, and a small toy car. The first think you need to do is bake the cake as directed on the box. Let it cool and then frost it with the chocolate frosting. Next pour a bag of coconut into a bowl and add enough food coloring to make the coconut look like grass. Spread the coconut onto the frosting, leaving a path that looks like a road. On the path, place the M&Ms to make it look like asphalt. Next place the toy car on the road, at a slight angle. Then place one of the gummy spiders onto of the car. Place the other two spiders around the car, like they are surrounding it. If you wanted to make this Halloween cake even more creative, you could take red gel and make it looks like there was blood coming out of the car.

Halloween Cake Ideas #2: Graveyard Theme

Another easy Halloween cake to make is a graveyard themed cake. For this Halloween cake you will need a chocolate cake mix (plus the ingredients to make it), chocolate frosting, a large package of Oreos that have been finely crushed, long sandwich cookies, a bag of white chocolate chips, a small tube of black frosting, coconut, and green food coloring. The first thing you need to do is bake the cake. While the cake is baking, melt the white chocolate and dip in the sandwich cookies. Place the cookies on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and allow the chocolate to set. Once the chocolate has set, use the black frosting to write the names of your party guests on the cookies, like the cookies were tombstones. Once the cake is cool, frost it with chocolate frosting. Then put down a layer of crushed Oreos. Next color the coconut like grass and place it on top of the Oreos. Insert the cookie tombstones into the Halloween cake and then add mounds of cookie crumbs so that it looks like fresh graves.

Halloween Cake Ideas #3: Circle of Witches Theme

This is a Halloween cake that kids will absolutely love. For this Halloween cake you will need your child's favorite cake mix (plus the ingredients to make it), paper cupcake cups, 8 ice cream bowls, 8 sugar cones, two tubs of vanilla frosting, red and black M&Ms, food coloring, milk, Twizzlers Pull-n-Peel candy, assorted miniature candies, and a small plastic cauldron. The first thing you need to do is bake the cupcakes. While the cupcakes are baking, take half a container of vanilla frosting and thin it down with milk. Next, use food coloring to make the frosting black. Paint the thinned down frosting onto the sugar cones and ice cream bowls and allow to dry. Once the cupcakes are done, and cool, color the rest of the vanilla frosting a light shade of green. Then take an ice cream scoop and place a scoop of frosting on eight of the cupcakes. Then take pieces of the Twizzlers Pull-n-Peel and put it on one side of the frosting to make it look like hair. One the other side put red and black M&Ms to create a face. Turn the ice cream bowls upside down, making sure to hide candy under each one. Then set the cupcakes on top of the ice cream bowls and arrange them in a circle. Place the sugar cones on top of the frosting and then place the cauldron in the middle. Fill the cauldron with candy and your Halloween cake is done.
