Halloween Cancelled?

Are we really going to cancel Halloween? The retail stores are still selling their merchandise for Halloween. The haunted houses have not changed their schedules. The kids are still dressing up in gouhlish clothing. So is Halloween really being cancelled?

There are many parents across the nation stating that Halloween is not part of their religious beliefs. So what is different this year from last year and all the previous years? The outcry for freedom of religion has been an ongoing issue since we became a country. Now parents of religions that do not have Halloween as part of their religion are protesting against the holiday.

The fact that this nation was founded on religious beliefs is not the issue so much, as it is the discernment between the secular religions and other religions. The secular religious groups do not find Halloween the least bit offensive.

Christianity notes that this is a Holiday on the US calendar, but more and more Christian households are taking their kids to churches and other places. Jewish and Muslim families are also up in arms about the holiday being still geared to devilish connotations.

A great number of people are protesting against the holiday simply because they do not want their children to get caught up in the worship of false gods or idols. Then there is the idea that Halloween begets devil worshippers and the like.

For me, Halloween was just another holiday where as a kid we would dress up in some outfit to go out and collect candy from neighbors in our area. With the scare of blades, poisons and other such things in candy, prepackaged candy became the item to give out. Then there were the toys or other items that were not harmful to kids that became more popular over the years.

The less known and talked about things of Halloween are the disappearances of people, and other such bizarre occurrances. Still, to just do away with Halloween is a bit extreme.

Halloween should be a time to spend with family and friends to enjoy each other's company while maybe having a party or just watching a movie. Whatever you choose to do on Halloween, choose to do good.

As a kid I loved Halloween. Now canceling it wouldn't bother me at all. :-)
