Halloween Candy Alternatives

Beyond the Sugary Sweets to a Better Trick or Treat

Laura Ewers
Here are 7 great alternatives to handing out candy this Halloween. These are great for all ages of trick or treaters. Best of all parents will appreciate the fact they don't contain sugar.
  1. Play Dough

Play Dough Is a great alternative for candy to pass out to trick or treaters and best of all even young children that most candy isn't really suitable for Play dough works great. It is something the kids can enjoy even after Halloween ends.

  2. Crayons

Crayons are another great alternative to candy for Halloween. You can usually find crayons pretty cheap, a lot of times in a party store or party aisle you can find little boxes of crayons about 8 or so to a pack for a few dollars. Again this is another "treat" that any age child can have.

  3. Plastic Play Jewelery (spider rings, necklaces)

These are a very cheap trick or treat item. You can buy a huge bag full of them (over 50) for only a $1 or $2.

  4. Bouncy Balls

These make a great trick or treat gift since they can be played with any time of the year. Also these are also very cheap. Pretty much every store sells these and you can buy them in lots of different sizes and colors.

  5. Stickers

little kids love stickers and best of all so will there moms and dads. There is no mess, and they don't have to worry about the sugar. Great alternative to candy at Halloween.

  6. Hand Tattoos (temps) - Oriental trading

You can get those little temporary tattoos pretty much any where however I think the best place to get them at is Oriental trading company. They have lots of different kinds. Such as Pirates, paw prints, Halloween themed, Glitter ones, glow in the dark ones, and many more. Best of all you can get 72 for only $4.99 that's only 0.06 cents apiece! The greatest thing however about this candy alternative is that you can buy several different kinds and let the kids choose. Also you can even save the left overs for next year or put them into goodie bags for birthdays, holidays, class parties, ect.

  7. Fast food treat coupons- McDonald's, Wendy's

Another wonderful alternative to all those sugary sweets on Halloween is purchasing those treat coupons that many fast food places sell around Halloween such as McDonald's and Wendy's. This year Wendy's is offering 5 coupons for $1. Each coupon is to get a free Jr. frosty. At McDonald's you can buy 12 coupons for $1 coupons are : 4 free apple dippers, 4 free small cones, 4 free apple juice or milk jug. I know I personally have given these out as well as received them when I take my son trick or treating and they are a hit both ways. My son loves it because he can then "pay" for his own thing and gets to feel big, I love giving them as well because they are great for all ages.

Regardless of what you choose to do this year for Halloween giving out one or more of these above options is great for an alternative to candy this year. Best of all both the parents and the children will enjoy these "treats". Happy trick or treating.
