Halloween Chillers and Thrillers with Surprising Plot Twists

As far as horror flicks go, there are the slasher films and those flicks that have the right mix of gore and chill factor to keep your mind engaged. These are the type of horror movies I like. Here are five of my favorite Halloween chillers and thrillers.

High Tension aka - Haute Tension/Switchblade Romance (2003)

The movie centers on two college friends, Marie and Alexia, who decide to travel to Alexia's family home in the countryside to study for exams in peace. However, what the friends get is a night full of terror at the hands of a truck driving serial killer. In the end, who is truly deranged - Alexia, Marie or the maniac killer?

The Hamiltons (2006)

The Hamiltons are a quiet but weird family who lost their parents in an accident and now the eldest son is left to care for his siblings. However, older bro can't keep the twins in check and the 'youngest' keeps poking his nose into things with that darn video camera. What younger bro spies with his third little eye makes him question the sanity of his family and himself.

Frayed (2007)

Sheriff Pat Baker's mentally ill and murderous son has broken out of the mental institution. Murders begin to take place by a person dressed as clown, suspected to be the Baker boy. However, just when you think you have the story all figured out a horrible truth is revealed that turns the story on its ear.

Eden Lake (2008)

Jenny and Steve just want a quiet romantic weekend at Eden Lake. Those hopes are shattered, when a gang of punks bullies them with dangerous results. What is more shocking is how the town folk deal with the situation.

Orphan (2009)

Kate and John Coleman, in an effort to heal from the loss of their newborn child, decide to adopt a little orphaned, Russian girl named Esther. Soon accidents begin to happen whenever Esther is in the midst and tension grows between Kate and the little orphan. However, what Kate later learns about Esther will make you do a double take.

These five horror chillers and thrillers area great alternatives to the traditional slasher movie this Halloween. I must warn you that you may have to watch a couple of them a second time to find out what you missed.
