Costumes can be very scary and in my opinion even sickening at times but they do not have to be this way. Make sure and choose costumes that are not scary to anyone, especially children. Kids always love to choose costumes from the latest Disney movies and things of that nature and most of the time costumes like that are not scary or offensive to anyone. Adults who like to dress up in costumes should pick something that is very creative but that does not mean that it has to be demonic looking. For an adult who maybe would like to take this time to witness to some people, make a costume that would represent someone such as Paul and carry a Bible with you. When people ask who you are supposed to be, a door has been open to share the Gospel.
If your area does not have a church that has some type of festival for Halloween, maybe you should suggest it. This is a great way to make sure that your kids are in a safe and very non-evil place. Let the kids have lots of fun and games along with a non-scary costume contest. Have games and events that everyone will enjoy such as a cake walk, fishing games, Bingo, ball toss, balloon stomp and even Twister! These will provide fun games and activities for all ages.
Trick-or-treating is one thing that my children love to do and we make it a very safe event. Make sure that your children wear something that makes them very noticeable. Glow necklaces and bracelets are a great way to make sure that your children are seen. They can even add to some costumes! Make sure and go with your kids, no matter what their age is. Because the world has made this holiday an evil day, you have to make sure that your kids are kept safe. Never allow them to go trick-or-treating by their selves even if you know the people they will be going to, you don't know the other people who will be going there as well.
If going our trick-or-treating is not your thing, then hand out candy to those who are trick-or-treating. This is a great way that you can try and reach some of those many lost souls out there. Print out your favorite scripture or a very meaningful scripture and tape to each piece of candy that you hand out. You can also get Gospel Tracts to hand out with the candy and just drop one in each person's candy bag. There are also some Christian book stores that sale candy with the verses and things already on the candy!
The point is that just because the world has turned Halloween into a holiday that so many people consider evil, does not mean that you have to celebrate it in that manner. Halloween can be a very safe and family fun holiday; you just have to make it that way. So have a very Blessed Halloween!
