Most of all, I love Halloween - the epitome of Fall's fun. Decorating the house in scary themes, dressing up, going to parties, hanging out with my friends and enjoying the weather is what makes it such a great time.
And no party would be complete without a lively concoction in your ghoulish hand. The following recipes are some drinks that I have come up with over the years. They are easy, fun to make, and really bring out the decadence of the holiday.
Devil's Tongue
1½ oz of Dry Vermouth
1½ oz Port
½ tsp of lime juice
Mix all ingredients in a glass and stir. Then pour slowly over ice.
Blood Bath
¾ oz Strawberry Schnapps
¼ oz Mint Schnapps
4-5 drops of Grenadine
Mix the Schnapps (both flavors) gently, in a glass. Pour over ice and then add the 4-5 drops of Grenadine.
Vampire's Kiss V1.0
2 oz Vodka
½ oz Dark Rum
Splash of Tequila
2 oz Tomato Juice
1 pinch of salt
Shake in mixer then pour over ice.
Mummy's Curse
2 oz Sangria
¼ oz White Rum
1 thin slice of Blood Orange
Fill a cup ½ way with ice, then put the slice of Blood Orange in. Add the Sangria.
Then, add the White Rum by gently pouring it down the inside of the glass.
It is best to make this in a pitcher and refrigerate overnight. Thinly slice a Blood Orange and add it to the Sangria. Do not add the White Rum or ice until you are ready to serve it.
Gravedigger
1 cup (8 oz) hot cocoa
1 shot glass filled with Bailey's Irish Crème
Whipped cream
Lightly pour the Bailey's into the hot cocoa and stir gently. Top off with whipped cream.
Candy Apple Kisses
2 oz Apple Schnapps
1 oz Mint Schnapps
1 oz Chocolate Schnapps
Mix all ingredients together. Serve over ice.
Zombie Flesh
This is one of my favorites because of the different types of rum and the way the flavors come together.
1 ½ oz of Spiced Rum
3 tsp Lime juice
Splash of Jamaican Rum
Splash of White Rum
¼ cup Pineapple Juice
¼ cup Strawberry Juice
1½ oz Honey
Splash of 151 proof Rum
1 pineapple ring, diced
1 strawberry, quartered
Powdered sugar
Put everything (except the 151 proof rum, the pineapple pieces, the strawberry pieces, and powdered sugar) in a mixing cup with ice and shake well. Put in 2-3 pieces of the pineapple pieces and 1-2 strawberry pieces. Float the 151 proof rum on the top and sprinkle a little sugar over it.
Fallen Angel
1½ oz Gold Rum
Splash of White Crème de Menthe
¼ tbsp Lemon juice
1 dash Bitters
2 cherries
Mix the Gold Rum and Crème de Menthe together. Set the lemon juice lightly on top. Add the bitters and garnish with cherries.
The Brain
This drink was created by my friend, Tony. It sounds gross, but tastes good.
Apple Schnapps
Grenadine
Baileys Irish Crème
Half & Half Cream
Pour 1 1/2 shots Apple schnapps into an appropriate sized glass.
Pour 1/2 shot Grenadine into that (there's the blood).
In a separate shot glass, mix Baileys and cream at a 50% ratio, slightly stir (there's the brain).
This is the tricky part, half pour, half layer the "brain" into the blood", if done right, the creams will curdle into a ball and float on top of the 'blood'.
Vampire
This final recipe was created by my best friend, Nastassia. She has received praises by everyone who has tried this drink.
There are many other drinks with the name of "Vampire", but here is my version of a shot drink I call Vampire.
This drink will resemble blood in a vial that has been spun through a centrifuge separating white and red blood cells. The drink is easily made with just three ingredients and a shot glass.
You will need:
Your favorite Vodka
Grenadine
Sweet and Sour Mix (liquid pre-made kind )
Making the drink:
Take a shot glass and fill it up all to about 1/4 inch from the top.
Next drizzle some of the Grenadine down the inside rim of the glass. This is VERY important that you do this slowly so that the Grenadine will sink to the bottom and the vodka will float on the top of it. You also cannot pour the Grenadine in first it will not look right if you do.
Lastly, lightly, top off the rest of the shot glass with the Sweet and Sour Mix.
Your finished drink will look like a shot glass full of blood that has blood separated in the lab.
You have to drink it as a whole shot and let the flavors mix on the palate to get the proper effect. Mixing the ingredients together beforehand ruins the taste and the drink.
