Halloween Costume Guide: Harajuku Girl

Sabrina Ricci
Dressing up as a Harajuku girl for Halloween can be fun and inexpensive. Harajuku girl is the name for young women uniquely dressed who hang out by the Harajuku Station in Tokyo, Japan. Harajuku is also a large shopping district which is also known for its distinctive fashion.

There are several types of Harajuku styles, including Kawaii (cute youth style), Lolita (a mix of Victorian era princess and goth styles), punk (gender neutral and dark), and Cosplay (costume).

This particular Harajuku costume is a mix of punk and Lolita, and everything you need can be purchased at your local Halloween costume store and local drugstore for under $30.

What You Will Need:

• Black Capri leggings

• Black eyeliner

• Black gloves

• Black tights

• Black tube top

• Liquid blush

• Pink high heel boots

• Pink scarf or piece of fabric

• Pink and black puffy skirt

• Pink wig

• Red lipstick

• White face makeup

Step 1: Apply black eyeliner around your eyes. It can be as heavy as you want, depending on how goth you want to look.

Step 2: Cover your face with white makeup. You should be able to find white clown face makeup in any Halloween costume store. The easiest way to apply your white makeup is to smear it on your face with your hand.

Step 3: Apply liquid blush to your cheeks. You want to look like a doll, so paint a circle on the center of each of your cheeks and do not rub in the blush. Wait for the blush to dry. While you wait, put on the brightest red lipstick you have.

Step 4: Wear black tights and put on your black leggings over the black tights. If you want, you can wear colors other than black. Experiment with it! It's fun.

Step 5: Now put on the black tube top and puffy pink skirt. Remember, you do not necessarily have to use these colors, I just chose them because they work well together and they stand out.

Step 6: Tie a pink ribbon or scarf around your neck. Many Harajuku girls wear accessories.

Step 7: Tie your hair back, and then put a hair net over it. This will prevent your real hair from sticking out of your wig. Once you have done that, put on your wig. Straighten or comb your wig if you need to.

Step 8: Put on you boots and gloves, and you are good to go!
