Halloween Costume Guide: Treasure Trolls
How to Create the Perfect Treasure Troll Costume This Halloween
The best part of the treasure troll Halloween costume is the hair. There are basically two different ways to achieve the right look for your hair--one for long hair, and one for short hair.
If your hair is long, you can easily use your own hair and a little color spray to get a great treasure troll look. The secret to getting your hair to stand straight up is to use a small water bottle. With your hair down, place a small water bottle on top of your head, slightly closer to the back of your head than the front. Then, while holding the water bottle in place, gather your hair up and around the water bottle and bring it together at the top of the bottle. You can then secure the hair to the top of the bottle with an elastic hair tie. If you play with the arrangement a bit, you should be able to completely cover the bottle with your hair so that the bottle is invisible. Then spray the hair with your choice of colored hairspray until you achieve your desired look. If you have trouble with shorter hairs falling down, you can use little barrettes or bobby pins to hold up the hairs. This hairdo is really fun and is surprisingly stable for a night of Halloween festivities.
If you don't have hair long enough to cover a water bottle, you can make a treasure troll wig using yarn. Start with a headband and tie pieces of yarn around it, so that you have yarn tails of about 8 to 10 inches hanging off of the headband. When you have added enough yarn to make your wig, hang the headband upside down and coat the yarn with liquid starch and let dry. Now that your yarn is stiff, it will be easy to prop up. Like the water bottle idea from above, you can use a ruler or similar object, placed in the middle of the yarn, to prop up the hair and attach the ends together.
The rest of your treasure troll costume can be whatever you like. I always go for a color theme that matches my hair. You can also do fun themes like "Hawaiian treasure troll" or "sporty treasure troll", whatever you want to do. Then don't forget to add your jewel to complete the treasure troll look. An easy idea is to use a shiny gift bow and stick it to your clothing. Or you could also use any shiny or jewel-like object that you have. Whatever you choose to do, you will definitely find that a treasure troll is one Halloween costume that people won't soon forget!
