Ideas are everywhere. Ideas can come from books, television, movies, and even music. Any character in any recently read book could be a great costume. It does not have to be a well-known character. An unknown character would gain more attention from curious observers.
From soap operas, reality TV, dramas, and comedies all have characters come in all shapes and sizes to suit your needs. Channel surfing for five minutes could reveal many good ideas from which to start. Be the rugged, larger than life hero that can still be sensitive or the fey beauty with a spine of steel, the choices are endless.
Your favorite movies and actors yield a plethora of quirky characters from which to choose. For men, any actor from Cary Grant to Tom Cruise and any character from Superman to Nacho Libre could be a base for your own costume. For women, any actress from Julie Andrews to Scarlett Johansen and any character from Wonder Woman to The Bride from Kill Bill could be a starting point of inspiration.
Musicians have a certain flair all their own. Punk rock bands and rappers seem to spawn a wide variety of creative personalities. Choose your favorite song and dress in a way that captures what you think the song is trying to say.
Most costumes are expensive. Online stores usually sell them for much cheaper but some budgets do not allow such an expense. One way to get a great costume at a low price is to browse the online shops and make a list of what is needed to create the various costumes that catch your eye. With that list, search thrift stores or even your own closets to find things that match the look you are trying to convey.
Having a great costume is possible. All it takes is a little time and planning. Set aside some time out of your busy schedule. Start now and there is no reason not to impress the world with your truly amazing costume.
