Halloween Costume Ideas for Disabled People

dessy321
Halloween is a great time of year for all people, even the handicapped and disabled. I know you are probably thinking it is hard to find a costume that will look awesome, especially since the stores tend to carry outfits for people without disabilities. I have some cool Halloween costume ideas that have people saying WOW!, and possibly getting you to take home the prize at the best Halloween Costume Contest.

Blind Person with a Seeing Eye Dog/ Worker Dog

How about dressing up as a Mad Scientist, and your dog is in an experiment that went wrong? Your dog will be dressed up in a half dog/half cat outfit? I know what you are thinking, how is my friends seeing eye dog or worker dog going to wear an outfit? Seeing eye dogs and worker dogs are very patient and well trained, the outfit for the dog is only the rear part of a cat. You may have seen the skeleton outfits they have for dogs, all you need to do is take the cat outfit and use the back half. For the Wacky Professor, all you need is a wacky white Einstein type wig for the hair, a white lab coat, smoke colored make up, name tag with Professor Frankenstien, and glasses with the hologram eyes. Apply the smoke colored make up on their face to look like a poof of smoke blew up on their face. For the wig, make sure it stands on end, kind of like they felt some high voltage. Voila, you now made your friend into a mad scientist, and his seeing eye dog or worker dog into an experiment that went wrong.

If you are a person who relies on the assistance of a worker dog, why not dress the both of you up as a fisherman and a lobster? The human is the fisherman, which your outfit will require wading boots, fishing lures, and any other fishing gear. The dog would go as your catch, a nice big lobster. Your friends will be in awe watching you the fisherman walking a huge lobster around, this will have you being the talk of the party. If you really wanted to be funny, you could just wear a yellow rain suit and say your the Gordon Fisherman.

A Person in a Wheel Chair

A fun costume for a person in a wheel chair would go as a slot machine. All you need for this costume is a large
cardboard box that will fit over the entire chair, white poster board, chrome paint, silver sleeved shirt,1 red glove and a red siren beacon. To give you an idea of what this will look like, the box sits over the entire chair, your head sticks out of the top of the box, with arms free at the sides, the red siren beacon is your hat, and your right arm will be the slot machines arm (your arm will have a silver sleeve with a red glove) that is pulled to activate the spinner. To make this costume you will need to have measurements taken for the arm, and neck holes. Once you have your holes cut out, spray paint the entire box with chrome silver paint. Measure out the mid center, about where your chest would be, and mark off an rectangular area slightly smaller then the box. This area is where your slots numbers or cherries will be displayed. On poster board, draw out the numbers 7 in red, or red cherries, and draw a black line across the middle, as if they hit the jackpot. These cards will be placed in the display window. Cut out a cardboard frame to be fastened over these cards, you want this frame to be an inch or inch and half, spray paint this frame with the chrome paint, once dry glue it to the box. Next take a rectangular foil pan, cut it in half and use this for the coin tray where the coins fall into. Secure this tray to the box and glue fake coins into it. You can dress this slot machine up as your favorite slots or any other machine you would like to be. For added effects bring along a tape recorder with the sounds of a slot machine going off.

People with Motorized Scooter Chairs

If you have one of the motorized scooters, why not go dressed as an meter maid, or a lost tourist? The meter maid would require a police officers costume, a ticket pad ( which you can make), handcuffs, 2 police star decal, long wooden dowel painted silver, and blue siren beacon. On your motorized scooter place the police star decals on each side of the scooter, secure the siren to the dowel, then secure the dowel to the scooter. Voila you are now a meter officer.

For the lost tourist, simply get out one of the Hawaiian shirts in your closet, a pair of shorts, sunglasses, camera with a strap, hat and a map. Simply dress as you like you are vacationing in Hawaii, have map in hand or pocket, camera around your neck, your straw hat on, sunglasses, and maybe some white sun block around your nose. All you need to do to complete this look is look lost, and ask excuse me sir, can you take our picture?

People who Use Crutches

How about dressing up as a Gorilla? All you would need is an Gorilla outfit. For your crutch part you will need to have some brown or black fake fur to make longer arms with hands that will extend down toward the end of your crutches, making it look like your arms and knuckles are dragging the ground like the arms of a Gorilla.

I do hope these ideas gives you a costume or two to think about, if not, maybe a open window to your own ideas using some of mine. Have a great and safe Halloween.
