Many people try to dress up their pets in cute little costumes for Halloween. But a lot of animals don't take to wearing those outfits very well. Do you have a dog or cat that you want to include in the festivities without dressing him up? Make him (or her) part of your outfit. Here are a few ideas for Halloween costumes that include your pets.
Costumes for large dog people
Do you have a Dalmatian? Wear a firefighter costume and keep your dog by your side in case someone needs rescuing from a burning building. Or, dress up like Roger or Anita and one of their 101 Dalmatians .
For those of you who have another large dog breed, wear a policeman costume -- this is especially a good costume for people with German Shepherd dogs or Laborador Retrievers. Another Halloween costume idea for you and your dog is a farmer and Bingo ("Bingo was his name-o").
Got a St. Bernard? Make your pooch the star of Beethoven for the night, and you can be one of his owners: George, Alice or one of the kids.
Costumes for small dog people
In the movie The Wizard of Oz , Toto was played by a Cairn Terrier, but any small dog likely would have worked. I am considering dressing up as Dorothy, and carrying my little Morkie, Mila, around with me. Benji is another movie character idea for your small pup, but this idea works best if he is accompanied by a child.
Do you have a Chihuahua, or another similar small dog breed? Wear a taco costume -- and your pup is the Taco Bell dog. For the ladies, dress up like Elle from Legally Blonde and refer to your dog as Bruiser. Ideally, your dog should actually look like the Taco Bell mascot or Bruiser.
Underdog is another Halloween costume idea for your small dog; for this one, you might need to wear a cape on your canine friend. You can dress yourself up as any of the characters in the series.
Costumes for cat people
If you have an orange cat, Garfield is the obvious character choice for your pet. Got a dog, too? The pair will work perfectly as Garfield and Odie. Or, dress up as the mistress or the butler, Edgar, from the Aristocats -- and wear a pretty collar on your (preferably white) cat so she can be Duchess.
There are plenty of costume ideas for those of you with black cats, as well. Fashion yourself a red-and-white striped hat since your Cat in the Hat probably won't wear it (you're Dr. Seuss). How about a witch and a black cat? Felix the cartoon cat? Tom and Jerry, Sylvester and Tweety...and the list goes on.
We can't forget those of you with small animals, either -- or those with multiple pets. Wear a veterinarian's costume, and tuck a little critter in the pocket. Take your more well-behaved pets to the door so they can greet trick-or-treaters this Halloween.
