Halloween Costume Selection for Dogs

Susan Golis

Costume Selection:

The best way to determine which costume is right for your pup you will need to study your pet, look at them seriously. What kind of personality does your dog have? Is your dog serious? On the other hand, is he/she nonchalant? For this type of dog, maybe a simple headpiece will suit their demeanor. The knife in the head is very popular and looks great worn on a droopy-eyed dog such as a basset hound or a bloodhound. It is simple and not as cumbersome. The knife in the head Halloween look surely will not break the bank, but do not expect your pooch to shower you with kisses!

Many people have peppy little dogs that zip around the house. These dogs just smile all the time. A simple costume for this pup just will not do. Therefore, you may want to go all out and get something a bit more dramatic. Make sure that his exuberant personality can live up to the costume. Here is a list of a few costumes suggestions for your pampered puppy; Yoda, a cute little eye catching ensemble. You might be interested in Princess Leah or another character from the movie Star Wars. I personally like the mustard hot dog with a bun doggy costume. The Hot dog features a bun worn on the side with mustard drizzled down the dogs back. Of course this is a must have for the miniature Dachshund.

For those of you that have a large laid back "everything is cool" type of dog, you can dress him up and send him on his way. This type of dog will be patient with children, by allowing them to paint their toenails, and dress them in a Ballerina tutu. So if you want to use makeup on this dog, go right ahead. Do whatever you want it is no big deal. They will just sit, and stay; after all, it is their job to make your day. Large yellow Labrador Retrieves make great ghost, just cut out the eyes and leave room for their black nose. Labs are great at carry things in their mouth; chances are they would carry your child's pumpkin basket all over the neighborhood.

Be sure to teach your pup a crowd-pleasing trick, and award them with a yummy Low Fat homemade dog treat.
