Halloween Costume: Yoda as a Cheerleader

Zana Quinn
Some of the best unique Halloween costumes are contrasting characters paired in an ironic twist. Take a Yoda costume and cross it with the cheerleader costume and voila-you'll have a head-turning costume that will evoke laughter wherever you go. It is easy to create these combinations yourself, just take two ordinary costumes that seem like opposites and mix them into one. In a zany way, a cheerleader Yoda makes sense. After all, who roots for Jedi knights more? Here are my instructions for putting together a cheerleader Yoda costume for less than a hundred dollars.

First, let's take care of the most crucial part of this costume by finding an inexpensive Yoda mask. Yoda masks range in price from $20-40, depending on where you buy it. Star Wars costumes continue to be popular so you will have choices once you begin looking. The mask will be the most costly purchase but it will make sure that you are a recognizable Yoda. Otherwise you will need the skills of a movie make-up artist.

Second, let's score a cheerleader outfit. Use clothing you already have at home, if at all possible. If not check your local Goodwill or Salvation Army for inexpensive finds before you go to a dept. store. This outfit doesn't have to be an actual cheerleading outfit. It's job is to give the idea of a cheerleader. A pleated skirt would be great, but you can use any short A-frame skirt. (A-frame just means that the shape of the skirt flows away from the body in the shape of an A.) Match your skirt with a long-sleeved sweater. Iron a huge letter onto the sweater to give your outfit school spirit. Yoda would choose a J for Jedi. Wear comfortable sneakers of your choice.

Third, let's consider props. Yoda would carry a light saber and a cheerleader would carry pom pons and a cell phone. If you're ambitious enough, find a long wig for Yoda to wear in a ponytail.

Fourth, let's make it believable with Yoda style. Show Yoda's wisdoms by using quotes from the Star Wars movies. Some of those quotes I remember are as follows:

· "Do or do not... there is no try."
· "Named must your fear be before banish it you can."
· "Twilight is upon me and soon night must fall. That is the way of things..."

Offer your friends your wisdom on Halloween, and cheer on your Jedi knights. This costume is bound to bring you great conversation, laughter, and memories.
