The Wicked Witch Is a timeless classic costume that everyone has been at one point in their childhood. All you need is a long black shirt, maybe even wear Dad's shirt to make it more special. Black tights and black shoes. You can pick up inexpensive makeup for the face at the Dollar Store and for the hat you can buy a cheap one, borrow someone's, or buy it at the after Halloween sale the year before. The broom is easy, everyone has one in their pantry.
You can't get much simpler than a ghost. A white sheet is pretty much all you need. You could cut out the eyes and if you really wanted to make a unique ghost you could draw a facial expression on it or draw the body with clothes. An old person is pretty easy to re-create. An old looking dress with lots of costume jewelry, a short curly wig, large purse, glasses, and a little face makeup will be all you need. You should have all of those items around your house.
Every little girl wants to be a princess. Your daughter may already have a dress in her closet that she can use. Use your curlers to curl her hair, she may have a crown in her toy box, and add some blush to her cheeks and put some lip gloss on. If all of your child's clothes are ripped up because you cannot afford new ones, then dressing up as a Hobo will be an easy task. Mess up their hair, put torn up clothes on them, and some face paint is about all you need to pull of that costume.
If you are thinking ahead you can got to the after Halloween sales at your local Target and find some awesome deals. They mark everything down to 90% off about two weeks after Halloween. You can misc. things to use for the next year. Keep in mind what size your child will be the next year.
Don't forget to document your Halloween memories with a journal or camera. You will love to look back and see all of the different and creative ideas that you had come up with.
