Halloween Costumes for Kids: Make Your Own

Do-it-yourself Children's Costumes

LeQuire
Halloween is a great holiday, filled with surprises, scares, and excitement. The great news this year is that you don't have to spend top dollar for your child's costume. There are several costumes that you can make at home and save yourself from all of the time and money spent shopping for one. You can get really creative with these costumes and maybe even come up with your own!

Robin Hood
Long underwear died brown.
Green felt tunic clinched at the waist with a leather belt.
Green felt hat with a feather on the side.
A medallion (use a jar lid, decorate it with pasta and glitter, tape a paper clip to the back and string yarn through to hang around the child's neck.)
A bow, made from a long stick and string, and a quiver made out of a long brown tube sock with grosgrain ribbon or cord attached at the top and bottom to tie across Robin Hood's chest. Sticks in the quiver are used as arrows.

Bubble Bath
White sweat suit or all white outfit
Small white balloons
Shower Cap
Bath loofa (with a string to hang from the wrist)
Rubber duck

Pin the small balloons all over the shirt. Put on the shower cap, hang the loofa from the wrist and carry a rubber duck or glue it to the shirt somewhere.

M&M (Great for twins)
Black sweat suit or all black outfit
Two pieces of cardboard
Spray paint - the color of an M&M
Black marker
Heavy duty string

Cut two large circles out of the cardboard. Paint the circles in the M&M color that you chose. Draw "M&M" on both pieces of cardboard circles. Use the string to hang it over the child's shoulders, front and back like a sign.

A Street
Black sweat suit or all black outfit
Yellow craft paint or yellow tape
Small plastic toy cars
White paint

Paint solid yellow lines down each side of the shirt, or use two inch pieces of yellow tape. Paint white dashed lines down the middle. Glue on the plastic cars.

Crayon
Red sweat suit (any color you want, it will be the color of the crayon)
Red construction paper (color of paper should match the outfit)
Black marker

Write "Crayon" down the side in marker. Use the construction paper to make a cone shaped hat to look like the top of the crayon. You can use hair clips to keep it on or string under the chin. Use face paint to be the same color as the crayon.

Whatever costume you decide to make for your little one this year, make it creative. If you don't use any of these particular costumes, maybe the have helped to give you an idea of something you could make yourself. Enjoy your Halloween and be safe!
