Halloween Costumes for Parent and Child

Antoinette McGowan
Dressing up with your child during Halloween can be a fun time for the whole family. It allows us as adults to get back to the fun times that we had as children. The costumes help us to really get into the spirit of the season and increase our excitement over the season to the levels of our children.

I have seen many parents dress up for Halloween in a costume that was just like their children or had nothing to do with what their children were wearing. After all you do not have match your child or you can pick similar outfits to compliment your child. But how about a change this year when doing your Halloween costumes? How about going in a different direction with your costume to where you still compliment your child's costume but at the same time you are on the other side of the fence?

What I mean by this is that if your child is the good guy character then you should go as their evil rival. If your kids have a fascination with the Power Rangers then get a Halloween costume for yourself that is one of the Power Rangers evil villains. Or if your child is one of the villains than you can be one of the good guys. How this can work is if your child wants to be a vampire this year for Halloween then you can go as a nun or a priest. Well I am sure you can get the hint on how to do this.

The contrast in this can make for some great fun times. Everyone so far that has seen our costume ideas are in awe of how we are doing ours. My 7 year old and 5 year old both have a carnival and a costume parade at the elementary and my 2 year old also has a carnival at the school for parents as teachers. All three of the boys are going as vampires. They all three have a different style of vampire costumes but they are still vampires. I am going as nun to contrast with their costumes but still staying within the theme.

While this contrast with costumes may not be for everyone it does offer you some additional ideas for this year's Halloween celebrations. This also works for couples costumes as well. Many couples go in couples costumes such as Romeo and Juliet, ketchup and mustard, pimp and ho and so on and so forth. This year why not go as contrasting couples that stay within the theme but are not usually put together when couples do couples costumes.
