Halloween Costumes: Shop Goodwill for Low-Prices

John Gugie
Do you need Halloween costumes for your kids or other groups but funds are limited? Have you ever thought about shopping the Goodwill stores in your area or online?

Goodwill has locations everywhere and their prices cannot be beaten. Plus, the money you spend there will go towards a great and helpful charity.

Goodwill is one of the world's largest non-profit providers of education, training, and career services for people with various financial hardships or disabilities. They help people with welfare dependency, homelessness, lack of education, lack of work experience, and the disabled.

At Goodwill, you can buy brand new, complete Halloween costumes at low prices. Choose from a large assortment of different costumes. You can also find Halloween decorations, accessories, and candy.

A more fun thing to do is to browse the stores' inventories for individual clothing and accessory items, which you can mix and match to create unique and personalized Halloween costumes.

You can create costumes with a 60s theme and be a hippie. Dress up as Sherlock Holmes, a gypsy, a cowboy or cowgirl, scarecrow, or a magician. The possibilities are unlimited! For my ideas, check the Goodwill NJ website out.

Make an event of it with your kids to put together costumes and maybe buy other items along the way.

Shop Your Local Goodwill

There are over 2100 Goodwill retail stores in the U.S. and internationally. You can locate a Goodwill store near you at locator.goodwill.org

Shop Goodwill Online

Don't have any Goodwill stores nearby? No problem! Since 1999, Goodwill has maintained an online auction site called shopgoodwill. You can browse the auctions at shopgoodwill.com http://www.shopgoodwill.com/

For Halloween costumes, you can go to the Clothing section. There you will be able to browse their costumes or find separate pieces of clothing to create the perfect costumes for your young ones.

Note that while donations are tax-deductible, sales are not.

As payment, the site accepts Visa, MasterCard, debit cards, personal checks, and money orders. It does not accept PayPal but some individual stores do.

Items are shipped by Federal Express, UPS or United States Postal Service. If you buy items from the same store, you can most likely combine shipping fees.

Items shipped within 5 business days of receipt of payment but personal require another 10-14 days to clear. So, if you need your costumes by Halloween, be sure to order by the first two weeks of October.

Good tip! Besides saving money, re-using helps the planet. : )
