Think of television shows and movies that are child friendly to get ideas. Make your daughter a Dorothy costume and your son a tin man costume for Halloween and they can go as characters from the Wizard of Oz. If you have friends or family that want to join in the fun of trick or treating, make them a scarecrow, lion, monkey, witch or the wizard himself. One of your children can go as Thomas the Tank Engine and the other can go as James or Percy from Thomas and Friends. You can also think of fairy tales and characters to come up with creative costumes for children. Snow white and the seven dwarves. Cinderella and the pumpkin or prince. Hansel and Gretel. Pebbles and Bam Bam. Jack and Jill. Little Bo Peep and the sheep. Barney and Baby Bop. Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Donald Duck and Daisy.
Using a cardboard box, create a bowl of cereal and a gallon of milk. Let your children help draw or paint the costumes and one of them can be a gallon of milk and the other can be a box of Cheerios. Get the whole family involved by making mom a spoon and dad a bowl!
If you have one older child and one younger child, dress your older child up in a farmer's costume and your youngest child in a pumpkin costume. Let your older child drive a tractor and pull their younger sibling behind them in a wagon. Use hay in the wagon for an additional prop.
Here are some other ideas that you would typically think of as a pair:
*Peanut butter and jelly. One child can be the peanut butter and the other can be the jelly. You can get the entire involved by making one parent the bread and one parent the knife or another slice of bread.
*Cat and mouse or mouse and cheese. These are good for the siblings that are constantly at each other's throat!
*Pair of dice. Make one child one number and the other child another. This would be easy to do from cardboard boxes and paint.
*Doctor and nurse. Allow your children to dress up as the doctor and the nurse. Carry a medical kit and a clipboard for additional props.
*Toothrush and toothpaste.
*Cowboy and Indian.
*Fisherman and fish. If your children are small enough and will stay together well, attach a fishing pole with a magnet or safety pin to the "fish" and let the other child hold the pole.
*Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. If other members are available, you could have reindeer or elves as well.
*Christmas tree and presents.
*Birthday cake and candles.
