For this project, you will need:
- One faux pumpkin of any size or shape (available at craft supply shops and Halloween decor shops)
- Soapy water
- Small dish cloth
- Paper towels
- Painter's tape
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
- Krylon Premiem Metallic Paint in Copper Foil
- Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray
- Teal glitter colored chipboard lettering (available at craft supply shops and Halloween decor shops)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Old newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
You will want to cover the space you will be crafting your Halloween pumpkin with layers of old newspapers and/or a large drop cloth prior to working on this project. Wash the outside of one faux pumpkin using a small dish cloth and soapy water. Rinse the pumpkin well with cool water. Dry the outside of the pumpkin with paper towels and air dry for an hour or so.
Wrap the stem portion of the faux pumpkin with painter's tape. (This will protect it during the following priming and painting portions of the project.) Prime the entire outside of the faux pumpkin using Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for one hour. Paint the outside with four to five coats of Krylon Premium Metallic Paint in Copper Foil. Dry overnight before continuing onto the next portion of the project.
Lay out the teal colored chipboard lettering to spell whatever you wish. A few ideas for Halloween include "trick-or-treat", "boo", "Happy Halloween", etc. Or, consider using the pumpkins to "lead the way" into your home or haunted house design. Whatever you choose, go ahead and spell the wording out on the workspace.
Heat up the hot glue gun on a medium high setting. Apply a fair amount of hot glue to the back of the first teal glitter chipboard letter. Adhere the letter to the side of the copper painted pumpkin. Continue this process until all of the chipboard letters have been attached to the side of the pumpkin and your message is spelled out. Once the glue has cooled, remove the painter's tape from the pumpkin stem. Spray the entire pumpkin using Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Finishing Spray and dry overnight.
