Halloween Craft: Spooky Spider and Web

Robin Kay
Halloween is coming soon, and creating this simple and fun Halloween craft will let your child join in on the festivities.

Materials Needed:
wax paper
light colored yarn, such as white or sky blue
glue
black construction paper
four drinking straws or black pipe cleaners, all cut in half
beads or plastic googly eyes
black tissue paper
stapler

Spider Web Instructions:
Cut out a circle of wax paper. Allow your child to squeeze qlue onto the wax paper in a whimsical pattern. Using the light colored yarn, cover the trails of glue. Set aside and allow the glue to dry.

Creating the Spider:
Cut two oval shapes (the same size) out of the black construction paper- these will serve as the spider's body. Glue or staple four drinking straws or pipe cleaners on one side of one of the ovals, and then the remaining four on the opposite side. Glue the second oval on top of the first oval to hide the glue marks or staples from the legs.

Cut or tear the tissue paper into small squares and allow your child to glue them to the top oval that is the spider's body. This step gives the spider a fun texture.

Cut out a small circle that will serve as the spider's head. Glue several small beads or plastic googly eyes to the spider's head. Glue the spider's head to its body.

Finishing the Craft:
Once the glue has dried on your spider and web, staple the spider once or twice to the web to help hold it in place. Glue small pieces of tissue paper over the staples to hide them.

Hang up and enjoy! Happy Halloween!
