Halloween Craft: Tissue Paper Spider Webs

Spider webs are a must-have for Halloween and if you want to combine an easy craft for the kids and these spooky decorations, here is an easy way to make your own. Make these homemade tissue paper spider webs and turn your home into a creepy haunted house for Halloween.

Tissue Paper Halloween Spider Web: What You'll Need
To make these easy tissue paper spider webs, you will need two things: Tissue paper and scissors. That's it. These spider webs are simple and quick to make--so plan to make several to decorate with. You can use any color of tissue paper--white, green, purple, orange, whatever.

To complete the look, you might want to make or buy spiders to add to the webs. Remember though, these spider webs are made of tissue paper so they are really meant for use inside, not outside.

Tissue Paper Halloween Spider Web: How to Make It
Making these spider webs uses the same principal as making paper snowflakes if you remember making them as a kid. The spider web--like the snowflakes-- is made by folding paper in a certain way then making cut outs. After cutting, the paper is unfolded to reveal an awesome design.

To get started, use a single sheet of tissue paper. Fold it in half then fold it in half again perpendicular to the original fold. Next fold this piece into a triangle so that fold meets fold. Hold this piece by the point.

Next, cut a curve along the side opposite the point. This will be the outer edge of your spider web.

When looking at the triangle, one side edge will be a fold. You will cut on this folded edge to create the webbing. Cut out several strips on this folded side. They can follow the top curve you cut or they can be straight. The inner edge or end of each strip should come to within about half an inch of the other edge. For an unusual effect, use scrap booking scissors with decorative cutting blades or pinking shears to cut the inner strips.

After you have cut the strips out, unfold the tissue paper and check out your design. You should have a unique and simple spider web. Make several of these and experiment with strip designs and edge designs to create your own Halloween decorations.

These homemade spider webs are inexpensive to make and are easier to clean up than the store-bought spider webs (those are certainly a pain to clean up around my house!). These are also a great project for the kids to get involved with and have a hand in decorating your home for Halloween.
