Halloween Crafts: Dangling Skull Window Decoration

Susan300
Decorate your windows for trick-or-treaters this season with these fun to make dangling skull decorations!

To make your dangling skull, you will start with a sheet of wax paper. If you are doing this project with a child, you can put a template to copy from underneath the wax paper for the child to follow along. If you're comfortable drawing free hand you will begin directly on the wax paper.

Using a bottle of glue, draw the outside shape of your skull onto the wax paper. Then draw in your details, such as the eyes and the mouth. Next, you will fill in a pool of glue on all the sections that are not meant to be open on your skull. For instance, you will not fill the eyes or the mouth. Those areas will be left open, but you will fill in all the areas around them. Your glue should be between a sixteenth and an eighth of an inch thick.

If you are using plain white glue it will dry to a not-quite-clear version of white. If you have access to glow in the dark glue that would work very well for this project, because once it dries your skull will glow. While your glue is still wet you can also add other details to your skull. For example, you might want to add a bit of glitter or other objects to decorate your skull.

While the glue is still wet be sure to add a piece of string or yarn to the top of your skull. Make sure it goes down into the glue and is covered up by glue. This is what you will use to hang your dangling skull in the window later.

Now you will need to let your skull dry. Depending on how thick your glue was, and the on the humidity where you live, the glue may take a full day (or maybe even two) to dry completely.

Once your skull decoration is completely dry, carefully peel away the wax paper from the back of it. If you wish, you can add additional decoration to your dry skull. For example, you could use craft pens or markers to add blood or scars to your skull.

Once you are done decorating, it is time to hang up your dangling skull. Use the piece of yarn or string you added to it to string your dangling skull decoration up in front of your window. Your dangling skull will be there to greet trick-or-treaters as they come to your house on Halloween.

Happy Halloween!
