Halloween Events in Athens, Ohio

As one of the top 10 haunted places in the nation, Athens, Ohio, is the perfect place to enjoy Halloween activities. Athens is home to the infamous "Athens Halloween Block Party". You can enjoy a night of costumes, music and drinking with up to 30,000 other people, all crunched into a 4-block section of uptown Athens. However, the Block Party is just one of the Halloween events in Athens.

No list of Halloween events in Athens, Ohio would be complete without mentioning the Block Party. Party-goers near and far come to Athens to enjoy the annual Halloween festivities. Two stages of bands, too many bars to list, an outdoor beer garden and a costume contest are too much for many people to resist.

Not to mention that all the drinking seems to bring out the best in people. Many a young adult has been photographed exposing themselves to the public, only later to find out their picture has been plastered all over the internet as a token of how fun the Athens Halloween Block Party can be.

In Playboy's Top Party Schools list for 2009¹, the magazine writes, "(Athens') Halloween party might be the best in the country."

During the day, Court Street is sectioned off and there are some family activities to enjoy. The bands usually begin playing around 2:00 p.m. Although the band schedule is not yet posted, closer to the Halloween event the list will be posted online by The Athens County Convention and Visitor's Bureau².

For those who think the Athens Halloween Block Party would not suit their tastes, Ohio University offers other events. This year's events have not been announced as of yet. In past years, they have offered midnight movies, such as "The Shining" with Jack Nicholson, comedians and open mic, dances in the Baker Center Ballroom and special concerts.
